Groundwork North Wales was proud to welcome Cllr Beryl Blackmore – Mayor of Wrexham, along with other councillors, council officers, and the chair and CEO of Groundwork North Wales and Refurbs to Tŷ Pawb for the official launch event of GNW’s new Lend & Mend sustainable hub.

Innovation and Sustainability

The hub offers residents a more innovative and sustainable way to access everyday items. This new hub allows locals to borrow tools, appliances, and sports equipment for a small fee, helping to save money, cut waste, and reduce unnecessary consumption.

Cllr Blackmore commented, “We are proud to have this opening in Wrexham. To be able to hire something for a small amount rather than having to purchase large items you may only use once is fantastic. It is a great asset to the community and a way to promote sustainability. I encourage everyone to give it a go. Bring back the good old days of sharing and reusing.”

Lend & Mend will host regular repair sessions so people can bring broken household items for free repair and learn directly from skilled volunteers. Residents can also take part in upcycling workshops, discovering how to transform old or discarded materials into something new and useful.

Collaboration and Skill Sharing

Lend & Mend is not only a lending library, but it is also a space for connection and community. The repair sessions and hands-on workshops aim to bring people together. It will nurture skill sharing and build a sense of collaboration across the area. Rather than purchasing items that sit idle for most of the year, residents now have the opportunity to borrow what they need, when they need it. So, instead of discarding broken belongings, they can learn how to repair and reuse, thereby extending the life of everyday items and keeping them away from landfills.

Lend & Mend looks to help people make small changes with big impacts, financially and environmentally. As new products are unnecessary, the initiative cuts down on CO₂ emissions. It also limits the consumption of raw materials, contributing to long-term environmental conservation.

Lend & Mend is set to become a lively hub for sustainable living. It has a growing calendar of repair events, workshops, and lending opportunities. Locals are encouraged to get involved – whether by borrowing, volunteering, or learning something new.

Lend & Mend is the result of a collaborative effort. Wrexham County Council, Benthyg Cymru, Repair Cafe Wales, Lend Engine, Groundwork North Wales and Refurbs, and community volunteers combined to make the idea a reality.
