It’s time to meet the Erddig Muddy Trainers (aka the Muddies!). Getting out for a run is a tried and trusted way of improving health physically, mentally, and socially. If you’re considering getting active in a safe social setting, then come along to one of the Erddig Muddy Trainers sessions – you’ll be most welcome.

If you are between 14 and 114, you are eligible to attend!

A Beginners’ Level Running Group

Erddig Muddy Trainers are a beginner’s level running group (even though some of them have been members for years!) based at Erddig National Trust in Wrexham. They go out of their way to support members with physical and mental health and fitness.

“The beauty of our group is that our focus is on the health and social aspects of running rather than times and personal bests, making sure no one feels left behind,” says Dawn, Chair of the Erddig Muddy Trainers group. “Our sessions offer the opportunity for individuals to experience the benefits of running in a friendly and supportive group, and we’re always happy to welcome new members.”

Sessions involve walking, jogging, or running within the stunning surroundings of Erddig National Trust, both in the beautiful gardens, which provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere for those new to running, and in the fantastic parkland. The sessions emphasise the benefits of running for both mental and physical health, with support from qualified leaders (via Welsh Athletics) to ensure everyone has a positive experience.

Social Gatherings and Fundraising

The group is affiliated with the National Trust for full insurance purposes, having originally started as part of the NT’s ‘Let the Outdoors Move You’ scheme in 2017.

They meet on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, with additional social gatherings and fundraising events. Saturday morning sessions usually culminate in a social gathering at the Erddig Coffee Shop. You can enjoy a bacon sandwich or a slice of cake among many other options, not to mention the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

It is free to join, with no membership contracts or commitments. They request a voluntary donation of £1 per session, which they then use for special events or local charity donations.

Follow them on Instagram or join their Facebook group to find out more!
