The Wrexham Miners Project (WMP), based on Maesgwyn Road in Wrexham, has continued to grow as a vibrant community arts hub since launching in 2020.
Weekly Art Sessions
Over the past five years, the project has expanded its programme to include a wide range of weekly art sessions, regular exhibitions and creative events that welcome people of all ages and abilities.
Since 2025, WMP has hosted monthly art exhibitions, allowing local artists to showcase their work on a four-week rotation. Artists contribute 20 per cent of any sales, helping to support the ongoing work of the project. Exhibitors to date have included Nicola Large, known as Largey, Janet Cooper and Adrian Medcalf.
Medcalf also has a permanent portrait exhibition in one of the galleries, available to view during opening hours. Open evenings are held for each exhibition on request, and artists can book available slots throughout the year.

Mini Art Buds
Alongside exhibitions, the WMP runs a variety of art classes and creative groups. These include Mini Art Buds for children and young people aged three to 16, Art 4 All for participants of all ages and abilities, and the Thursday Art Group, known as TAG, which brings together beginners and experienced artists to share ideas and develop skills. Programmes run throughout the year, providing regular opportunities for creative learning.
The project also delivers art events for Brownies, Guides and Cubs, as well as private and seasonal arts and crafts workshops. School holiday sessions for children and young people take place throughout the year, alongside summer Art Fests and Christmas craft activities. Visiting artist workshops are regularly hosted, featuring both residential and guest artists working across a wide range of creative disciplines. In addition, bespoke classes are provided for children in residential care and those not in mainstream education.
Open Art Competitions
WMP has also built a strong reputation for its open art competitions, which have been running since 2023. The current competition for 2026 is open for entries until 30 April. Local artists are encouraged to submit work in any medium, with two categories available for under-16s and over-16s. Entry is free for young people, while adult entries cost £10.

The project is open daily from 9am to 2pm, Monday to Saturday, with extended opening two hours before AFC match days. Further information is available directly from the Wrexham Miners Project team via telephone, email or social media platforms.
