Friends of Wrexham Museum Meetings
January 17 @ 7:00 PM

The Friends of Wrexham Museum meet every third Tuesday of the month.
They always have a programme full of very interesting speakers and the next talk will be by Chris Holden.
Chris is the Scuba diver and underwater heritage expert who protected the wreck of the submarine “Resurgam II” (“I Shall Rise Again”) after it was discovered in 1995 just off the Rhyl coast.
Manchester reverend George William Garrett designed the 45-foot-long submarine in 1879. The steam-powered vessel was constructed in Birkenhead and cost around £1,500.
After a successful trial off Wallasey, the submarine and its three-man crew set off for a demonstration at the Royal Navy in Portsmouth in 1880. However, it started shipping water after stopping at Rhyl for repairs and sank about five miles off the coast.
Chester diver Keith Hurley discovered the wreck in 1995 after following up on reports from a trawler that it had snagged its nets on something submerged.
A replica of the submarine can be seen close to the Woodside terminal of the Mersey Ferry in Birkenhead.

Please contact the Friends of Wrexham Museum for further details, and you will be able to get in touch with a committee member who can answer any questions.
You can also call 01978 297 460 or visit the museum: Wrexham County Borough Museum and Archives, County Buildings, Regent Street, Wrexham LL11 1RB.
We look forward to seeing new and current members.
