June 16 @ 6:00 PM 7:00 PM

Livingston Welsh Alcohol Glyndwr

The price of a pint? Can Welsh alcohol policy do good? by Dr Wulf Livingston, Reader in Social Sciences

This event is a part of the Sgyrsiau Glyndŵr Talks Public Lecture Series

About The Lecture

This lecture explores the Welsh Government’s move to follow Scotland’s lead and depart from England and introduce a minimum price for alcohol. Additionally, the lecture will explore The Public Health (Minimum Price for Alcohol) (Wales) Act 2018 and evaluate what can be learned about alcohol health and harm, unpacking three key ideas.

  • What is minimum pricing for alcohol and does it work
  • The role of policy in regulating our consumption of a legal drug
  • The nature of devolved Welsh Government powers in the sphere of alcohol and other drugs

What will we learn?

  • Just what is an alcohol pricing policy and how does it fit into Welsh Government aspirations for societal well-being and a healthier relationship with its drinking?
  • What is the evidence base for approaches to alcohol and other drug use policies?
  • An understanding of the benefits and limitations of Welsh devolved government

Who can come along?

All are welcome to attend this free public lecture, especially if you’re interested in alcohol policy, how we can reduce the harms associated with drinking, health and wellbeing promotion, and devolution in Wales.
