The kettle will be on the boil all day when Wrexham Insurance stages a day full of sweet-treats to help raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

Team members at the branch on King Street are staging an office cake bake on October 18 when visitors can indulge in a range of mouth-watering fancies. A brew and cake will be on offer for just £1.

These will include branch manager Liz McGuire’s speciality – deep-filled cupcakes oozing fillings such as chocolate and mint, raspberry and vanilla, fudge and caramel.

To add to the fun, the day will take on a Great British Bake Off flavour with visitors able to vote for their favourite bake.

Liz, along with colleagues Dennis Seward, Connah Atkinson, Craig Henshaw and Anthony Jones hope to welcome as many people as possible.

She said: “I’m a keen baker, the guys not so much! But everyone is bringing something in, home-baked or shop bought. The spread will include a range of gorgeous cakes as well as savouries such as sausage rolls and quiches. Everyone is welcome!”

The branch, part of The County Group, has staged Macmillan Cancer Support coffee mornings in the past. It has welcomed customers and people from other local businesses, raising around £60 per event.

Liz, who has been in insurance for more than 30 years, said: “We all know someone that cancer has touched, whether it’s family or friends.

“We have also noticed that when we quote/sell travel insurance and go through the medical questions lots of customers declare cancer diagnosis of some kind.”
