Adverse Weather Brings Community Together – The recent arctic-like weather united the local community of Cefn Mawr in an uplifting display of selflessness and courage.

Compassion And Unity

In an inspiring display of compassion and unity, residents of Cefn Mawr experienced the true spirit of community this week as Donna Thornley, Community Agent for Cefn Community Council, and Krissy Morrison, Chair of the CRNCA (Cefn, Rhosymedre & Newbridge Community Association), personally delivered hot, home-cooked meals to elderly residents who were unable to attend the Over 50’s Luncheon Club due to the severe weather conditions.

As severe weather gripped the area, isolating those who rely on social connections, this act of kindness became more than just about food – it was about ensuring no one was left behind. The meals, prepared by the CRNCA’s Over 50’s Luncheon Club, served as a lifeline to many in the community, a reminder that even in challenging times, compassion will always find a way.

Donna Thornley stated, “In moments like this when the weather keeps people from coming together, it’s important to ensure that no one feels alone. What we did yesterday is a small example of the larger community spirit that thrives here in Cefn Mawr. It’s about caring for each other, lifting one another up, and making sure that every single person knows they are valued.”

Providing Essential Support

The importance of this gesture echoes far beyond the immediate act of meal delivery. In recent times, especially with the challenges posed by the pandemic and unpredictable weather patterns, community organizations like the CRNCA have become critical in bridging gaps and providing essential support. This initiative highlights the need for continued solidarity, especially for vulnerable groups, as they navigate an increasingly uncertain world.

Krissy Morrison, Chair of the CRNCA, added, “This is the essence of what we stand for – ensuring we forget no-one, especially when times are tough. Today, it’s a meal. Tomorrow, it could be a friendly check-in or a helping hand. Our role in the community is to make sure we are there for each other when it counts the most.”
