Bank of America
Organised Programming
Bank of America recently visited Ysgol Rhiwabon and provided all Year 7 students with some fun, organised programming and engineering activities.
The engineering aspect allowed the students to build a tower made out of spaghetti, masking tape and string. There was fierce competition among those who sought to create the highest tower. The programming section was based on Python. This was fortunate because they had just completed a topic where they created a quiz in Python.
Relaxed Yet Challenging
Students were placed into groups and challenged to beat the allocated time to achieve the required result. It was challenging, and most students did very well and enjoyed the activities. Prizes, including water bottles and notebooks, were awarded to the top teams. It was a fun few hours, and the students really enjoyed themselves in a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere, solving complex programming and engineering feats.
Bank of America visited last year, and it was a resounding success. This year was even better and was a wonderful and beneficial experience for all students.

Mr P Slater, Curriculum Leader for ICT, said, “I would like to thank all members of the Bank of America team for their help in running such a fantastic day. Year 7 used their skills already learnt to build further knowledge and understanding of programming beyond the normal classroom scene.”
Tea-Staining!
To help students engage with lessons across the curriculum, the school has encouraged students to work more practically in the classroom. An example is in English with Year 9 students, where they use tea-stained paper to create an 11th-century newspaper article on King Duncan’s death for the study of Macbeth.
Students of the Year
Jack Davies, a Year 11 student, has completed two enrichment courses this year and excelled in both. He won a student of the year award in his photography course at Coleg Cambria and his music course at Wrexham Sounds.
Elis White has studied two enrichment courses this year. He studied body and paint spraying at Body Perfect and also completed a motor vehicle course at Coleg Cambria. He has received a student of the year award for his achievements in the motor vehicle course.

Blake Roberts won a student of the year award for his construction course at Coleg Cambria.
Prom Night!
The Ysgol Rhiwabon Year 11 Personal Profile Ceremony took place on June 19th, followed by prom celebrations at The Rossett Hall Hotel.
On a picture-perfect, sunny evening, the Year 11 students met at the school, with just over 250 parents and family members waiting to greet them and take photographs in the school grounds. There were some marvellous vehicles on show bringing students to the ceremony from a range of cars to motorbikes, numerous supercars and even a commercial lorry.

Lead learner for Year 11, Miss Tara Mountford, hosted the personal profile ceremony. Tara delivered an emotional speech in front of the families. She bid a fond farewell to her students and wishing them happiness and success in the future. The Chair of Governors, Mrs Joan Lowe and Headteacher, Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, supported by the Year 11 form tutors, presented the achievement files. The students then travelled to Rossett Hall Hotel for their Prom.

Mrs. Joan Lowe, Chair of Governors, said, ‘It is a privilege to see our Year 11 students and recognise the journey that they have followed during their time in Ysgol Rhiwabon. The Governors and staff wish them well as they venture into the wider world. The school sends their best wishes to all of them for the future. We are very proud of them.’
