Sam Rowlands MS has been highlighting a wide mix of local issues and achievements across North Wales, starting with a visit to Nightingale House Hospice as it marks three decades of service.
Nightingale House Hospice
He toured the Wrexham site with CEO Lauren Emberton and said, “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Nightingale House Hospice. I was so impressed by the excellent support they offer.” Sam praised the “incredible” staff and volunteers, adding, “They all deserve a huge thank-you from us all.”
Nightingale House began with a day unit in 1985 at Wrexham Maelor Hospital before community fundraising led to the standalone Chester Road facility, opened in 1995. The hospice now delivers free specialist palliative care across Wrexham, Flintshire and East Denbighshire.
Borras Park
Rowlands has also thrown his support behind residents in Borras Park, calling for urgent action on recurring flash flooding. He helped submit a petition to Wrexham Council and Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water after long-standing problems on Warrenwood Road, Philips Close and Daleside Avenue. He said, “I was appalled at what I heard. Although the cause of the flooding has been identified, I understand that drains are still overflowing when there is heavy rain.”
Councillor Debbie Wallice echoed the call for solutions, saying the repeated flooding, including sewage entering homes, is “totally unacceptable”. The petition urges drainage upgrades in the 2025–2030 Asset Management Period. It also seeks further support from the council and Welsh Government.

Wrexham Maelor Hospital
Parking challenges at Wrexham Maelor Hospital remain another focus. Rowlands is backing Wrexham Council’s calls for the health board to address the long-running shortage of spaces. “The car park is often overflowing… and from reports, this is happening every day,” he said. He stressed the safety issues caused by cars parking on verges and pavements. He added he has raised the matter repeatedly in the Senedd.

Senedd Elections
Ahead of the 2026 Senedd election, Rowlands is also urging residents to confirm their electoral registration details. “Now is the time to check your registration details to make sure you do not miss out,” he said, encouraging recent movers in particular to respond to Wrexham Council’s annual canvass.
Outdoor Activity Sector
Supporting Wales’s outdoor activity sector is another theme in his recent work. Rowlands, who chairs the Senedd’s Cross Party Group for the Outdoor Activity Sector, welcomed the new Outdoor Alliance Wales manifesto. “It’s fantastic to see Outdoor Alliance Wales publish a manifesto ahead of the next Senedd elections,” he said, emphasising the sector’s benefits for health, education and the economy. OAW’s 50-plus member organisations are calling for bold action to secure future access to Wales’s outdoor spaces.
The Stroke Association
Rowlands also met with the Stroke Association to back efforts to raise awareness of stroke as a health priority. He said, “I fully support their calls to make stroke a health priority. With the right investment, stroke is preventable, treatable, and recoverable.”

His recent visits included a tour of JCB Transmissions on Wrexham Industrial Estate, where new production lines—including green hydrogen generators—are creating local jobs. Rowlands said it was “a pleasure to be shown around this fantastic plant” and welcomed the investment as “very welcome news for the area.”
