Rob Corcoran’s Ingenious Green Lantern Scheme

Back in September 2022, as people around the world were preparing to watch Welcome to Wrexham, life-long Wrexham AFC fan Robert Corcoran was in Wrexham, preparing to watch Ryan Reynolds on Green Lantern.

From August 28th, he was locked inside some converted retail premises at 16 Yorke Street in Wrexham city centre. He watched Reynolds’ 2011 superhero-super-disappointment Green Lantern 100 times in a row!

The twist: if the new owners of Wrexham Football Club, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, called him, he would stop.

Now, for the first time, the complete story of the “performance art piece” is available to watch online.

“I have such a personal connection to my city and the football club”, Rob said. “Both have been a huge part of my identity for as long as I can remember. When the release of the documentary was approaching, it felt like a clash of three huge things in my life – Wrexham, filmmaking and football. I needed to do something to commemorate it. I was thinking, while the world is watching Wrexham, I’ll be in Wrexham, watching Ryan Reynolds”.

Rob, a filmmaker and artist who runs the production company 73 Degree Films, had his first season ticket for Wrexham in the 2007-2008 season. The year the club were in the National League. This personal connection pushed him to carry out the ambitious project. The film covers how the project was carried out, with a fun and engaging look at every day Rob spent locked inside the “Green Lantern” space.
