Wrexham Maelor Voluntary Services
Over the years, many of you will have visited Maelor Hospital, and for some, that may have been a sad occasion, but for many, it will have had a happier outcome. However, regardless of the result, you are very likely to have enjoyed food or drinks in one of the cafés run by Wrexham Maelor Voluntary Services. As the name suggests, they rely on volunteers to run the operations and assist in preparing and serving refreshments. The good part is that, as well as smiling at customers, MVS raises large sums of money, which are all used to improve the facilities in the hospital.

Volunteers do one three-hour shift per week or month, which is the service greatly appreciates. MVS try to ensure that they have any training required and that they are happy with the job they ask them to do.
Many of the volunteers have now retired, and the organisation is finding it very hard to cover all the shifts to the extent that they are no longer able to open evenings and weekends.

To volunteer, please get in touch with Robert Dewey at robdewey1950@gmail.com or on 01978 761315. Alternatively, you can email sally.thompson@mvswrexham.co.uk, call 0300 085 7306 or visit mvswrexham.co.uk.
If you’re at the hospital, you can always just ask a member of staff at the café for a registration form!

Young Carers Time to Shine
Young Carers from Wrexham have been co-designing a Celebration event with Done Together CIC, a newly formed social enterprise. The event is to help businesses achieve their goals, and the staff from Credu support young and adult carers.
Sally Duckers, Credu WCD Team Leader, said, “We are celebrating the incredible contributions of Young Carers and Young Carer Allies from Wrexham. It is exciting to see the energy that the carers are creating. We recognise the exceptional, the kind, the everyday thoughtfulness and the above-and-beyond impact of individual young carers and allies from our community who support young carers in their jobs, as citizens and as family members.”
The event is taking place at Brymbo Sports Club this month. The theme for the event is Stars, an uplifting theme for a dark and cold period of the year. The project will also give Young Carers learning a musical instrument with Wrexham Sounds, a stage to perform on, as well as an opportunity for a Young Carers choir to come together and sing.

Jamila Thomas
Young Carers are also working with Artist Jamila Thomas from Arts Connection. Together, they will create star-themed designs and share inspirational quotes to dress the hall in positivity.
‘The young carers come up with brilliant ideas. They are so grateful for the support friends, family and other professionals have shown them’, said Leanne Jeffreys, Credu Outreach Worker. ‘ I am really looking forward to the evening and giving some of these amazing young people a chance to shine’
This project has received £16,398.98 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cadwyn Clwyd, AVOW and Wrexham County Council have also provided their support. #UKSPF
