Tescos in Wrexham and Cefn Mawr Join Forces With Wrexham Foodbank
Tesco stores in Wrexham and Cefn Mawr are proud to announce a joint community initiative. This is in support of Wrexham Foodbank, the frontline organisation tackling poverty in our community. On Friday, 1st May 2026, both stores will host an in-store Food Donation Day. They will invite customers to donate essential food items to support individuals and families in the local area.
Side-by-Side
Colleagues from both stores will work side by side with volunteers from Wrexham Foodbank. They will collect priority items, raise awareness, and highlight the growing need for food support within the community. Donation stations will be located at the front of each store, making it easy for customers to contribute while shopping.
David, Community Champion for Tesco Cefn Mawr, said, “We’re incredibly proud to be teaming up with our colleagues in Wrexham to support the fantastic work Wrexham Foodbank does.”
Alison, Community Champion for Tesco Wrexham, said, “Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference to people locally. We’re grateful to all our customers for their continued kindness and generosity.”

Increasing Demand
Wrexham Foodbank is seeing increasing demand for emergency food parcels and relies heavily on community support and local partnerships. In 2024/25, they provided over 10,000 food parcels feeding over 3,000 children in the Wrexham community. Priority requested items include long-life milk, cartons of pure fruit juice, tea bags and small jars of coffee, tinned meat, fish, vegetables and fruit, long-life pasta or rice, cereals, toiletries, and other everyday essentials.
Customers visiting either Tesco Wrexham or Tesco Cefn Mawr on the day will have the opportunity to:
- Donate food or essentials directly at collection points
- Speak to volunteers and learn more about the work of Wrexham Foodbank
Tesco and Wrexham Foodbank Wrexham would like to thank all customers and colleagues for their ongoing support in helping to make a positive local impact. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Erddig Nordic Walkers – Spring Awakening
April saw the launch of the second quarter programme of events for 2026. They will be starting their renowned ‘Away Day’ series with their first outing on The ‘Pier to Pier’ Walk – Colwyn Bay to Llandudno on the Wales Coastal Path. This walk is of moderate difficulty and is suitable for all walkers.
Away Days
Other ‘Away Days’ for this quarter include The Famothem ‘Mawddach Trail’ and the introduction in June of their Newest ‘Away Day’ -The Anglesey Adventure. Their ‘outings’ are always very popular and fill up quite quickly, but are, unfortunately, only open to members. The May New Member Training Day will be at Erddig on Saturday, 12th of May. Please visit erddignordicwalkers.co.uk for instructions on how to join.
On Saturday, 28th March, they celebrated their ‘Spring Awakening’ launch. Though slightly later than the meteorological spring, it still allowed them to look forward to better walking weather and a welcome to celebrate the successes of the group.
The growth in membership with a regular turnout of 150 walkers per week across their three programmed walks is phenomenal, and they are now exceeding their pre-Covid number of attendees. Great news that not only demonstrates the benefits of Nordic Walking but is a testament to the group’s contribution to health and fitness in the Wrexham Area.

Ambassadors
They are proud to be ambassadors for the Wrexham UK City of Culture Bid 2029. The group is also pleased to enjoy the historical and cultural aspects of the Wrexham Area provided by the locations of their weekly walks. They are also proud of their contribution to the local economy – a cuppa‘n’a chat social following every walk in a local pub, café or eatery.
They are also pleased to be part of the launch of the new Wrexham Nature Prescription Booklet this Spring. This highlights the importance of mental health and well-being, combating social isolation and those aspects other than the general health and fitness that Nordic Walking offers. This, along with the sense of belonging to a group, firmly promotes the idea of ‘collective effervescence’
Their motto – Exercise-Enjoy-Energise – remains the keystone of their group. If you want to be part of this and, above all, have FUN, come along to one of their free new member training sessions. You are assured of a warm welcome.
