The Lexus Wrexham Open 2026 starts this Sunday with the strongest entry list in its short history. From 18 to 25 October, players from the world’s top 200 will compete at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre. Meanwhile, a brand-new One Point Grand could send a local amateur all the way to the Australian Open.

World-Class Field for the Lexus Wrexham Open 2026

Armenia’s Alina Charaeva heads to Wrexham as the highest-ranked player in the field. Earlier this month, she beat newly crowned world number one Elena Rybakina at the China Open in Beijing. That remarkable run took her to the fourth round and into the world’s top 100 for the first time.

Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini, Czechia’s Dominika Salkova and Germany’s Noma Noha Akugue are also inside the world’s top 130. Spain’s Marina Bassols Ribera completes that impressive group of top 130 players heading to North Wales. Furthermore, Belgium’s Greet Minnen entered after beating Elina Svitolina while representing her country in the Billie Jean King Cup last month.

Several former world top 50 players also appeared on the initial entry list released earlier this month. They include Lucia Bronzetti, Linda Fruhvirtova, Rebecca Sramkova, Mona Barthel and Clara Burel. Notably, Burel has reached the third round at the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open twice.

Leading British Players Head to Wrexham

Billie Jean King Cup star Jodie Burrage leads a strong British contingent at this year’s tournament. She has a career-high world ranking of 85 and has reached the second round at three Grand Slams. Last month, she was also part of the Great Britain team at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in China.

Alicia Dudeney, the current British number seven, arrives in Wrexham in excellent form after a superb season. Last week, she beat top seed Antonia Ruzic, a recent top 50 player, at the WTA 125 Samsun Open in Turkey. In addition, she has won five World Tennis Tour titles this year, including a W50 event in Nottingham.

Hannah Klugman, 17, won her first World Tennis Tour title last month and played Barbora Krejcikova at Wimbledon. Amelia Rajecki, the recent W35 Roehampton champion, and Victoria Allen will also compete alongside 15-year-old Daniella Britton. Britton is set to receive a wild card after winning both the under-16s and under-18s titles at the Lexus Junior National Championships.

New Finalists Guaranteed This Year

Last year’s first tournament ended in an all-British final, with Mimi Xu beating Mika Stojsavljevic. However, neither player will return to Wrexham this October, so there will be new finalists. Instead, Xu is on a US college scholarship and playing in Canada, while Stojsavljevic has a wild card into a WTA 500 event in Tokyo.

Promoter Dave Courteen said British players “can certainly look forward to receiving plenty of support”. He added that the overall entry list is significantly stronger than 12 months ago. “We have a lot of players from the world’s top 200, including a number currently ranked in the top 150,” he said.

Qualifying for the Lexus Wrexham Open 2026 starts on Sunday morning, with main draw matches beginning on Tuesday 20 October. Tickets start from £8 for adults and £4 for under-16s, including a 44-page programme. Alternatively, a week-long tournament pass costs £75 for adults and £57 for under-16s from wrexhamopentennis.com.

One Point Grand Offers a Ticket to Melbourne

On Monday 19 October, the tournament hosts its first One Point Grand from 7.30pm at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre. Sixteen professionals from the Lexus Wrexham Open will take on 16 amateurs in matches lasting just one point. A toss decides who serves, with the pros getting one serve and the amateurs two.

Excitingly, the champion wins £1,000 and a wild card to January’s Million Dollar One Point Slam in Melbourne. The prize includes an all-expenses-paid trip to Melbourne for the Australian Open, one of tennis’s four Grand Slams. Twelve of the amateurs are club players from North Wales and the North West, with four celebrity wild cards completing the line-up.

Courteen promises music, interviews and “jeopardy on every point” for spectators throughout the two-hour evening. “Just how amazing is that?” he said, picturing a local amateur facing Jannik Sinner or Aryna Sabalenka in Melbourne. BBC iPlayer will show the event live, and tickets cost £9.50 for adults and £5.50 for under-16s.
