Welcome to Our November Issue

Hello and welcome to our November issue! What an exciting time for our city!

We’re celebrating the brilliant news that Wrexham has made the final four for UK City of Culture 2029. It’s a huge moment and a chance to show what makes Wrexham so special. Inside, we’ve got everything you need to know about the journey ahead, starting on Pages 22–23.

There’s more good news for the city centre, too, with a £5 million grant set to transform Henblas Street and the former Hippodrome site into a brand-new cultural quarter, complete with green spaces, tiered seating and a big outdoor screen (Page 20).

🏆 Wrexham Makes the Final Four for UK City of Culture 2029

Wrexham has made the shortlist of four places bidding to become UK City of Culture 2029, and would become the first Welsh UK City of Culture. The Wrecsam2029 team says it is ready to deliver a programme that would transform lives across the region and leave a lasting legacy for the whole of Wales. Inspired by the ambition to make Wrexham ‘the world’s most playful place’, thousands of local people have shaped the bid. All the details are on Pages 22–23.

🐝 Talk of the Town: The Hive Wrecsam

We meet Fern Evans from The Hive Wrecsam in this month’s Talk of the Town feature on Page 12, and find out what you can expect when you visit… including the return of a traditional butcher’s counter and a shop that lets local traders keep every penny they take.

🎸 Local Kid Rocks Portmeirion

Music lovers are in for a treat. We meet 13-year-old Holly Baker, who went from busking in Chester to playing on stage with glam rock legends Sweet at Portmeirion (Page 10). Not bad for someone who hasn’t finished secondary school yet! We also join Baby Brave at their triumphant album launch (Page 18) and meet folk-pop duo Igloo Hearts (Page 26).

⚽ Ben Foster Serves Up a Surprise

Football fans, don’t fear. Wayne Jones is back sharing his thoughts on the season so far (Page 60), and Ben Foster swaps his gloves for a frying pan at Brickfield Rangers FC, serving up pancakes before facing the youngsters in a penalty shootout (Page 56)!
