Ysgol Rhiwabon pupils have plenty to celebrate after a busy and successful summer term. From award-winning expeditions to a county rounders title, achievements came thick and fast across the school.
DofE Expedition and Youth Theatre
It was a busy summer term at Ysgol Rhiwabon. Congratulations went to the Year 9 pupils who completed their latest DofE expedition. Notably, they navigated challenging sections extremely well. DofE Leader Naomi White thanked Emma Beveridge and Callum Edwards for their support. Both showed dedication across a particularly intense two days.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme continues to be a highlight for the school’s older pupils. Each year, students take on greater physical and organisational challenges. They progress through the bronze, silver and gold levels. Therefore, staff say the scheme plays a valuable role in building confidence and resilience among young people at Ysgol Rhiwabon.
Pupils Noah Thomas, in Year 10, and Elsie Salisbury, in Year 7, also took to the stage at the Stiwt Theatre. They performed in Footloose the Musical: Youth Edition. Also, both are members of local youth theatre group Theatr Yr Ifanc Rhos 1990. The high-energy production formed part of the venue’s 100th anniversary celebrations, giving the young performers a genuinely special milestone to be part of.
County Champions on the Rounders Pitch
It was also an outstanding week for rounders, with every year group competing in the Wrexham area tournament. Year 7 and Year 8 were crowned county champions. Meanwhile, Year 10 finished second and Year 9 came fourth. Thanks went to Mrs Davies-Bottomley for her hard work and enthusiasm in supporting the teams.
Consequently, the tournament capped off a memorable few weeks for pupils across every year group. Staff say the strength in depth shown across the age groups reflects a wider culture of participation at the school, rather than success resting on just one talented team. Therefore, expectations are already building for next year’s competition.
Together, these achievements reflect the breadth of opportunity on offer at Ysgol Rhiwabon, from outdoor challenges to the performing arts and competitive sport. Parents and staff alike have praised the pupils involved for their commitment throughout what has been a genuinely busy term. Consequently, the school enters the new academic year with plenty of momentum behind it.
Events like the Stiwt production also give pupils valuable experience beyond the classroom, building confidence in front of an audience. Performing as part of a venue’s centenary celebrations added extra weight to an already memorable production for those involved. Meanwhile, teachers say opportunities like these help develop skills that carry over into other areas of school life.
