The club has enjoyed a breakout year, introducing padel courts and hosting a major tournament. They have also consolidated a range of tennis sessions for players of all ages and abilities and introduced padel classes.
Lexus Wrexham Open
The Lexus Wrexham Open – the biggest tennis tournament in Wales for nearly 30 years – took centre stage (or court) at the club from October 19–26, bringing a week of world-class matches, community events, and plenty of excitement. As part of the celebrations, the centre also welcomed business leaders from across the region to the Sport and Business Networking Lunch, sponsored by Aaron & Partners and Highstream Solutions.

Wheelchair athlete Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, one of Britain’s greatest Paralympians, headlined the event as keynote speaker. The 11-time gold medallist was appearing alongside Olympic cycling champion Joanna Rowsell, who won gold at the 2012 and 2016 Games.
Around 150 guests gathered at the Ramada Plaza Hotel before heading to the courts to watch live play at the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour event – the largest in the UK outside the grass-court season. The lunch included a lively panel discussion on resilience and how to build strong, adaptable teams.

All Ages and Abilities
Away from the spotlight, the centre continues to thrive as a community hub, offering a comprehensive weekly programme for every level of player. Sessions are divided into seven categories:
- Tennis for 4-9 year olds
- Tennis for 10+ year olds
- Future Stars U18s
- Performance U18s
- Rusty Rackets
- Adult Beginners
- Adult Social
Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or returning after a break, there’s a welcoming session to suit you.
Padel and Pickleball on the Rise
The club has embraced the growth of padel, with its Serve, Smash, Repeat – Intro to Padel sessions making a popular return. After a brief pause due to coaching availability, morning and evening classes are now resuming. The sessions cater to complete beginners and improvers looking to sharpen their skills.

Following on, the new Padel Xpress course offers a six-week programme for £72 (£12 per session), helping players build confidence and keep their game progressing. Padel isn’t the only fast-growing racquet sport drawing attention. The centre also hosted the Franklin Open Pickleball Tournament, run in partnership with pickleball.co.uk and Franklin. The two-day event featured exciting rallies, great sportsmanship, and a lively atmosphere that highlighted the appeal of this fast-growing sport.
The club hosted a disability tennis networking event in September, as part of their commitment to inclusion. Currently, due to the availability and the presence of coaches with specific training, the centre does not offer walking tennis. However, they do offer inclusive tennis through their wheelchair and open-play sessions.

The Wrexham Ready podcast delivered daily updates throughout the tournament. The podcast is available to listen to from all the usual providers, including Spotify, Amazon and Apple.
