The Caegwrle-based school is just one of many community stories we bring you this month, along with Coleg Cambria and AVOW.

Abermorddu School

The Year 6 class at Abermorddu Community Primary School in Caergwrle are currently fundraising for a school trip to France in summer 2026. During the trip, the children will visit D-Day memorials, meet their French pen pals, and learn more about the country, its people, and its culture.

To help make this happen, they’re aiming to raise a total of £4,000 through fundraising and match funding. They are looking for donations to help reach this total. Any help at all would be really appreciated, and it would mean a lot to the children and families involved.

Anyone wishing to donate can email the school directly at [email protected].

12 Mountains, 12 Months

Staff and lecturers from Coleg Cambria’s Bersham Road site in Wrexham will take on the 12 Mountains, 12 Months Challenge, scaling some of Wales’s most iconic peaks in support of Hope House/Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices.

Led by Karl Jackson, Assistant Principal for the Institute of Technology and Site Lead at Bersham Road, the 22-strong team will climb more than 11.95km (39,189 ft) of mountain height – the equivalent altitude of
a commercial aeroplane at cruising level.

The group hopes to raise a minimum of £1,500 across the year for the charity. Hope House provides vital care and support for children with life-threatening conditions and their families across Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid and North Wales.

AVOW

AVOW have announced plans to renovate and extend its headquarters, Tŷ AVOW, in the heart of Wrexham. Lesley Griffiths, MS, praised the organisation’s enduring impact over her 17 years representing
Wrexham in the Senedd. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining a community centre in the heart of Wrexham.

AVOW Chief Officer Dawn Roberts-McCabe unveiled the £3.5 million plans. This project will turn the charity’s Egerton Street base into a carbon-neutral, energy-efficient community space. Lawray Architects designed the redevelopment. It will include modern and affordable office and meeting spaces. A flexible event area for up to 75 people is also on the agenda. This space will have an accessible and welcoming design.
