Sporting Siblings Making Their Mark
Three siblings from Ysgol Rhiwabon are building an impressive record across football, athletics and gymnastics, combining school life with training and competition.
Evan McGlynn and twins Jake and Katie have each delivered strong performances in recent years. Their progress reflects individual commitment and a consistent approach to development across different sports.
Talent Runs in the Family
Sporting ability clearly runs in the McGlynn family. Father, Terry, played in goal for East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire county football teams. Meanwhile, their mother, Liz, competed as a Welsh international athlete at junior and senior levels.

Evan’s Return to Form
Evan, now in Year 11, is currently preparing for his GCSEs. Alongside his studies, he plays for Rhos Aelwyd Under-16s, who sit top of their league at the time of writing, and have reached the cup semi-finals.
Importantly, his recent performances follow an ACL operation last year. After completing 12 months of rehabilitation, he has returned stronger and contributed to another successful season. This builds on earlier achievements, including a treble-winning campaign at under-14 level.

Katie’s Dual Success
Katie, in Year 9, balances athletics with an intensive gymnastics schedule. She trains around 18 hours a week with Wrexham Gymnastics Club.
Recently, she became the North Wales Performance 3 All-Around Champion. Katie secured first place in beam, floor and vault, while also finishing third on bars. She now progresses to the Welsh Championships.

Katie has also excelled in athletics. She won the under-13 girls’ high jump and placed second in the javelin at the North Wales Championships, highlighting her ability to compete across multiple disciplines.
Jake’s All-Round Contribution
Jake, Katie’s twin, represents Cefn Mawr Rangers in football. His team currently leads their league and has reached the cup semi-finals.
In addition, Jake has performed strongly in athletics. At the North Wales Championships, he placed second in both the long jump and 200 metres, and third in the shot put.
Community Involvement
Beyond sport, the siblings have taken part in community events. Jake and Katie were selected as ball crew at the recent Lexus tennis tournament in Wrexham. They also represented their school at Wrexham’s D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration at St Giles’ Church. There, they joined a procession carrying flags from the nations involved. Staff at Ysgol Rhiwabon described the students as a credit to both their families and the school.
