Rock ‘n’ roll author Suzan Holder, wife of Slade star Noddy Holder, appeared at Wrexham Carnival of Words last week. TV presenter Suzan has written two romantic comedies with a musical theme. One features a lovelorn Beatles fan, and the other involves a family mystery about Elvis Presley.

An Embarrassing Encounter

Suzan entertained book lovers and music fans at Wrexham Library on Tuesday, 23rd April, at 7 p.m. with stories about how her hair-raising real-life adventures inspired her hilarious and heartwarming books. From an embarrassing encounter with a Beatle to a dramatic rescue by a Mississippi motorcycle cop, Suzan revealed how she turned her true-life experiences into critically acclaimed fiction novels published by HarperCollins.

Some critics have dubbed her books “rom-coms for rock chicks”. They have also described them as the perfect laugh-out-loud read for fans of Milly Johnson and Ruth Jones.

Journalist turned author Suzan is also a magazine columnist and news commentator on various TV channels. She trained as a newspaper journalist in Cardiff and worked in regional and national news before moving into television production. She met Noddy while working on Central Television’s late-night debate show Central Weekend Live in 1989. Suzan moved to Granada Television in Manchester to continue her career and became Executive Producer of the ITV daytime show Loose Women.

In her first novel, Shake It Up, the main character, Beverley, tells the story of a Beatles-mad single mum who gets herself into all sorts of trouble when she tries internet dating. Suzan said, “At one point, poor Bev discovers her antics are being discussed on a daytime TV talk show. As I was the Executive Producer of ITV’s Loose Women, I expect you’ll figure out where I got that idea!”

An Eventful Trip To Memphis

An eventful trip to Memphis inspired Suzan’s second book, Rock N’ Rose. It tells the story of a young girl who heads to Memphis, Tennessee, to solve a family mystery connected to Elvis. Suzan said: “Some of the craziest things that happen to the main character in that book really did happen to me, and I’ll be going into more detail at Wrexham Library. It’s going to be a fun evening!”

Suzan lives with Noddy in Cheshire, they have been together for 34 years and married for 20. She is currently working on her third book and developing her first book into a theatre production.
