Nile Rodgers & Chic and Sophie Ellis Bextor

Thursday, July 11th, was a sensational night of disco classics. Nile Rodgers & CHIC – plus special guests Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Deco – delivered another incredible feel-good evening at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

The buzzing Pavilion crowd enjoyed hit after hit as Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Nile & CHIC delivered an unforgettable performance. Massive hits Le Freak, Good Times, Everybody Dance, and many more transformed the Pavilion into a vibrant disco dancefloor.

Kitchen disco queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor had already warmed up the crowd with a set that included Crying at The Discotheque, Take Me Home, Hypnotized and, Murder On The Dancefloor.

Viral pop sensations Deco opened the night.

Madness and The Hoosiers

Pop’s nutty boys went One Step Beyond as they headlined the Eisteddfod’s final summer show.

Rounding off a month that has seen 11 global rock, pop and classical stars headline the Llangollen Eisteddfod, British pop giants Madness were also in town. Madness were celebrating their 13th studio album Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie debuting at number 1 in the UK charts.

Llangollen Pavilion became the Theatre of The Absurd as Suggs and co-performed hit after hit. Kicking off with One Step Beyond and Embarrassment. Fans were treated to a real House of Fun with favourites including My Girl, Wings of a Dove, Shut Up, Mr Apples, Baggy Trousers, Our House, and It Must Be Love. They ended the night in that ever-so-Madness way with Night Boat to Cairo.

Addressing the packed crowd, Suggs said: “Isn’t it nice to be out and about? We’re all shapes and sizes, but we’re still alive, and it’s nice to see some young people here!”

Fantastic Party Atmosphere

The many fans who came dressed up for the occasion created a fantastic party atmosphere. They didn’t seem to mind when the band had to start songs over on two occasions. It all seemed to be part of their charm.

Supporting Madness were pop rockers The Hoosiers. They started off with Worried About Ray and surprised the crowd with unexpected covers of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Ain’t Nobody. They finished their gig with the smash hit Goodbye Mr A.

The headlining show from Madness marked the end of a summer of live music at Llangollen Pavilion. The event kicked off in June with Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams followed by Simple Minds, Paloma Faith, Manic Street Preachers and Suede, Kaiser Chiefs, Tom Jones, Gregory Porter, Katherine Jenkins OBE and also Jess Glynne.
