There are lots of things happening in the community – Ysgol Rhiwabon and Professor Michael Kerr Scott have been busy.
Sports Leaders
Recently, sports leaders assisted with an Active Wrexham event at the local primary school in Ruabon St.Marys. This message from Mr Steele, the PE Co-ordinator at St Mary’s, is a testament to the pupils and speaks for itself:
“All of the staff of St Mary’s are very grateful for the support of the sports leaders during our sports day. All nine were exceptionally well-behaved. They did an excellent job of supporting and leading the various activities that we had in place, including the jumping ladder, hurdles and long jump.”
County Champions
The Year 9 and 10 Girls Rounders teams were undefeated in the county tournament and have become county champions! Mrs Aimee Jones, Curriculum Lead for PE, said, “This is a huge achievement for them. We are extremely proud of what they have achieved”.
Prom Night
The Ysgol Rhiwabon Year 11 Personal Profile Ceremony, was followed by the Prom at The Rossett Hall Hotel.
Some marvellous vehicles, from cars to motorbikes, numerous supercars, and also a spectacular horse, were on show, bringing students to the ceremony!
The Lead Learner for Year 11, Jon Tonks, hosted the Personal Profile ceremony. The Chair of Governors, Mrs Joan Lowe, and the Headteacher, Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, presented the Profiles, supported by Year 11 Form Tutors.
The students then travelled to Rossett Hall Hotel for their Prom Party.
Michael Kerr Scott
Professor Michael Kerr Scott, one of the foremost authorities on Elizabethan drama and a respected theatre critic, is the founding Vice Chancellor of Wrexham University.
Previously a Pro Vice-Chancellor at De Montfort University in Leicester, he is now a Fellow and Senior Dean at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford, and Director of the Future of the Humanities Project with Georgetown University, Washington.
Despite being busier than ever, Professor Scott – who has written numerous texts on Shakespeare – has turned his hand to fiction. He has received glowing praise for Hamlet and the Psychotherapist and The Scottish King: Macbeth and the Psychotherapist.
The stories follow the exploits of 21st-century psychotherapist Jacob Fortune. Jacob is not a massive fan of Shakespeare and is even cynical about his existence.
“I don’t believe in slowing down or standing still because there is so much to do,” he said. “I have many ideas for future books, academic and fiction. I’m sure there will be more adventures for Jacob Fortune – watch this space!”
