Daryl shares his tips for the perfect way to describe your business.

Exceptional Attendance

How quickly time passes – we are already in March. We trust your business year is progressing successfully and that you have found value in the insights shared in previous issues of Love Wrexham.

Since the start of the year, our networking meetings have seen exceptional attendance, with record numbers of new businesses joining our community. Clearly, business owners are realising the power of business networking! As promised in last month’s edition, we now turn our attention to crafting the perfect pitch for your business services.

The Perfect Pitch

It is important to remember that networking is not simply about communicating what your business does, it is about articulating the support you require to drive growth and improvement. While some background on your business and its offerings is appropriate when attending a meeting for the first time, the key focus should always be on the specific assistance your business needs at present.

As highlighted in an earlier issue, defining your objectives for attending any networking event is essential before preparing your message. You must first clarify what you aim to achieve to communicate the support you seek from others effectively. In our networking training sessions, significant emphasis is placed on creating impact and ensuring your request for support is memorable, so that attendees can recall your needs long after the event concludes.

All too often, we see individuals deliver unfocused, rambling pitches, hoping to secure work through attendance alone. However, successful business development requires more strategic effort than this. We strongly advise against attending events without preparation. Plan your message, commit it to memory, and begin with a powerful opening statement designed to capture attention and engage your audience.

High-Impact Opening

For structured networking sessions (such as those run by networx4business), we do not recommend opening with your name, business name, or background. This approach risks losing the initial impact and may cause attendees to disengage. Conversely, at open networking events where you move between groups, a high-impact opening may be inappropriate and could be off-putting to others.

The potential of effective networking is substantial, but it requires dedicated time and effort to yield results. This includes regular attendance, building genuine relationships with fellow business owners outside of formal meetings to foster trust, and actively supporting others in securing new opportunities.

We will return in April with further guidance on maximising your business potential. In the meantime, should you have any questions relating to networking or general business matters, please do not hesitate to contact us at daryl@networx4business.co.uk.

Daryl is the owner of networx4business, a networking group that runs four meetings on the Wirral (Silk Road, Start-Yard, Arthurs of Hoylake and Mere Brook Hotel), five in Cheshire (The Woodcote Hotel, Little Owl, The Cheshire Cat, The Farmers Arms and Old Hall Farm Pub) and four in North Wales (Maesgwyn Hall, Caffi Dai, Rossett Hall Hotel and Alexander’s in Mold). All the meetings have a structure and a purpose, and many members say coming to a networking group has got them out of their comfort zone and has increased their confidence when talking about their business. Networx was established as Daryl was getting frustrated with the cost of other networking groups, as well as their formality and frequency. He believes that networking works best when members are relaxed and not under pressure to bring referrals, or targeted on them. In this way, any business or referral passed over is more genuine and better qualified.
