Behind the counter at Regent House of Flowers on Yorke Street, mother and daughter Laura and Harriett Evison have built more than a successful city-centre florist. Both are active community fundraisers, and this summer each is backing a cause very close to her heart.

Harriett’s World Scout Jamboree Adventure

Harriett volunteers as a Beaver and Scout Leader with Bishop’s Own Scouts in Wrexham and has previously raised funds for organisations including Hope House Hospice, Wooley’s Therapy Farm and Erlas Garden. This year, she qualified as a member of the International Service Team for the 26th World Scout Jamboree, taking place in Gdańsk, Poland, in 2027.

The event marks the 120th anniversary of Scouting and will bring together around 50,000 young people from across the world, with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, international friendship and mental wellbeing.

To raise the funds needed to attend, Harriett has organised a Mini Polish Cocktail Trail in Wrexham city centre – a community-led initiative linking three popular independent venues: The Fat Boar, Safar and Levant. Each is offering its own unique Polish-inspired cocktail, including a Bison Botanical, a Warsaw Mule and a Szarlotka.

The trail celebrates Polish culture ahead of the Gdańsk Jamboree while shining a light on Wrexham’s vibrant independent hospitality scene. Participation is a relaxed, sociable way to support the fundraiser, with visitors free to drop in at their own pace across the event period. The trail ties in neatly with the summer season and events when the footfall in the city centre is at its highest. Those unable to take part in person can donate directly at GoFundMe.me/ee0f846c2.

Laura’s Heartfelt Tribute in Paint

Laura’s fundraiser has a deeply personal story behind it. She has created an original artwork entitled Calon y Bannau (Heart of the Beacon) to mark what would have been the birthday of Mick, a much-loved figure who served as Beacon of the North for Wrexham-based mental health group Beyond Six. The piece depicts Pen y Fan, Mick’s favourite place in the Brecon Beacons, looking across towards the Cribyn.

Laura is raising money for two charities through a raffle: SSAFA, which supports veterans and their families, and Brecon Mountain Rescue. Entries are £2 each, with all proceeds going directly to both organisations, and the prize is a limited first-edition A3 framed print of Calon y Bannau, valued at £80. The winner will be drawn on 27 September 2026.
