Nightingale House Hospice is celebrating the achievement of team member Liv Taylor, who has been promoted to Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) after progressing steadily through the organisation since joining in 2021.

Deputy Ward Manager

Liv first joined the hospice as a Staff Nurse in February 2021 before quickly progressing to Deputy Ward Manager. Over the past four years, she has continued to develop her clinical knowledge, skills, and leadership experience with the support of the hospice.

During her time at Nightingale House, Liv has completed an extensive programme of training, including specialist development in areas such as palliative care, non-medical prescribing, hydrotherapy, verification of death, and student supervision. She is now nearing completion of a two year Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice at Liverpool John Moores University.

“Anything Is Possible”

Liv also received a Hospice UK grant, coordinated by senior hospice leaders, that has partially funded her postgraduate degree. She shared her gratitude for the opportunity: “I have always lived by the mantra that anything is possible if you want it enough. “The grant from Hospice UK has enabled me to undertake a Master’s degree, developing my skills and knowledge so I can work competently and confidently at the hospice.”

Reflecting on what working at Nightingale House means to her, Liv said, “Nightingale House Hospice is about making a positive and influential difference to patients in the local community with a palliative diagnosis. But it’s not just about supporting the patient, it’s also about caring for their family and friends.

“We advocate for our patients, ensuring all their physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological needs are met. I love being part of a multi-disciplinary team that continually reflects on how we can improve services and adapt to meet the growing demand for specialist palliative care.”

Staff Development Investment

Tracy Thomas, Director of Clinical and Patient Services, praised Liv’s commitment and highlighted the wider importance of investing in staff development: “Liv’s progression is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when talented, dedicated clinicians receive support to grow. “At Nightingale House, developing our staff is not only about strengthening our team, it directly benefits our patients.

Liv’s new role will also support seven day and late admissions, helping us respond more quickly and flexibly to the needs of those we care for. When our staff thrive, the care we provide becomes even more responsive, compassionate, and skilled. We are incredibly proud of Liv and delighted to see her step into her new role as ANP.”

Liv will now bring her enhanced clinical expertise to the hospice’s specialist palliative care team, supporting patients with complex needs and helping ensure they receive the highest standard of personalised, holistic care.
