Mountain Warehouse Opens Bigger Wrexham Store – Plas Coch is to add yet another substantial business premises to its glowing portfolio as Mountain Warehouse joins other recent additions Farmfoods, Marks and Spencer and Costa Coffee.

Four Times the Size

Mountain Warehouse had confirmed it was planning to move premises back in October 2024. The specialist outdoor clothing retailer has moved into the former Sports Direct site and created a store that is roughly four times the size of its former premises on Island Green. The business closed its doors for just 10 days, with its former shop closing on 13th March and the new one opening on the 22nd.

The company’s relocation follows a commitment to expanding its presence across the UK after a surge in demand for outdoor clothing. In the past six months alone, more than 20 new stores have opened, including several in retail parks.

Operating across two floors, the new store offers women’s and children’s products on the ground floor, while men’s, hardware, and camping gear are available upstairs.

“Fantastic for Wrexham”

Store manager David Morris said, “It feels brilliant to be open now. To have something this big, with this much choice, is going to be fantastic for Wrexham. We’re a 13,000ft2 store now, from being a 3,000ft2 store, so we’ve got much more room to stock our brand, which means more choice for customers of colours, ranges and sizes. We also do the Animal brand, which we’ve got an in-store department for as you walk in. That’s something that they only put in the big stores, and again, that gives more choice of clothing.

“Our intention was to be ready for the 24th, but we’ve done really well and have managed to get it done a day and a half early.”
