Wrexham resident is now North Wales’ most prolific blood donor!

For more than 60 years, Wrexham resident Sandra Allen has quietly helped save lives through blood donation, and she is now closing in on an incredible milestone of 150 donations.

A Lifetime of Commitment

Sandra, who also serves as the secretary of the Friends of Wrexham Museum, recently reached 143 donations. She received special recognition from the Welsh Blood Service during a ceremony in Wrexham earlier this year, where director John Prosser presented her with a certificate displayed in a beautiful Welsh slate frame.

Sandra’s determination to become a donor began when she was just 18 years old during the “flower power” era of the 1960s. At the time, she created a personal bucket list that included adventures like a free-fall parachute jump, learning to ride horses Western style, owning a sports car, and climbing Yr Wyddfa. She also set an ambitious goal to visit 100 countries – a target she has almost achieved at the age of 96!

No Plans to Stop

Through all those decades, regular blood donation remained incredibly important to her. Sandra has donated blood all across the UK, even giving blood the day before her wedding in 1974!

“I do not intend to stop,” Sandra said. “My next goal is 150 – seven to go.”

At the awards event, Sandra delivered an emotional speech encouraging others to step up:

“As technology moves us all on in many directions, we will need many more donors. No one can manufacture blood… only us humans.”
