Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith are very active as always and have announced they are opening a new care suite, holding a gala ball, and even organising a “duck race”.

State-of-the-Art Extension

Children and families across North Wales and Cheshire will be able to receive the care they need and make lasting memories together in a comfortable environment. All thanks to a brand-new state-of-the-art extension at Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospice.

Beautiful Views

On May 6th, the Conwy Valley-based hospice unveiled their multi-use care and family suite. Fully grant-funded, it features a fully equipped care bedroom with beautiful views across the Conwy River. It also has a family bedroom for parents and brothers and sisters to stay, a medical station and a bathroom.

Head of Care at Tŷ Gobaith, Angharad Davies, said, “This is the realisation of a dream for us. We aim to reach every local child and family living with a life-threatening condition. We try and help them to live their best lives and make precious memories. Having this space means families are close to their child at all stages of their journey. I want to extend an offer to any family in North Wales and Cheshire living with a seriously ill child. They can make contact with our community nurses and see if we can help meet their needs free of charge.”

Best Possible Environments

The extension cost £620,000, and the six-month building project was carried out by BEST Construction and TACP Architects.

Andrew Fergus, Director of Finance, People and Resources for the charity, said, “The recently completed extension and refurbishment provide the best possible environment to deliver professional care and support to families across North Wales and Cheshire. This ambitious investment has only been possible thanks to the dedication and expertise of our staff team and external contractors, the vision of our Board of Trustees, and, of course, the generosity of our funders and supporters. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this successful project. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on local children and families.”

Kyle, who accesses care at the hospice, cut the ribbon at an event for specially invited guests and families. They enjoyed an exclusive tour of the new facilities. There was also a presentation about the work of the hospice and the difference the new suite will make.

Tŷ Gobaith Gala Ball Comes Home

The beautiful Caer Rhun Hall will host a memorable evening as the charity’s gala ball returns for the first time in five years. Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospice, nestled in the Conwy Valley just a stone’s throw away from the Victorian Manor House, has teamed up with top fashion brand Sisters and Seekers to host the black-tie evening on Saturday, September 20th.

Home Soil

The event has returned to home soil, and also the 21st anniversary of the hospice, it was fitting that the charity joined forces with the North Wales-based designers.

Being hosted in the Hall’s brand-new permanent glass-fronted marquee, the evening will feature memorable entertainment, three courses of delicious locally-sourced food, table wine, live and silent auctions, plus plenty of time for networking and dancing.

Event organisers, Vanessa Marubbi and Sian Golding, said, “For such a glamorous event, it is great to have the amazing Sisters and Seekers as our headline sponsor. They really are the perfect fit. Tŷ Gobaith is North Wales’ only children’s hospice. It aims to reach every child and family living with a life-threatening condition. The hospice will also support them with respite, nursing care and play therapy needed to live their best life. By choosing to come to our ball with your colleagues or friends, you will be directly supporting hundreds of local children and families to make the most out of their time together.”

Passionate About Contributing

Joining Sisters and Seekers as sponsors are other local firms, Celtic Financial Planning, Swayne Johnson Solicitors and LL Estates.

Alice and Maisie Jones, Directors of Sisters and Seekers, commented, “Sisters and Seekers are passionate about contributing and working with people who make a real difference. Hope House is the perfect example of this.

“It is a huge privilege to support a charity that revolves around kindness and compassion for such brave children. We are truly proud to know our donation has become something meaningful. We hope our contribution helps in even a small way to ensure that each child’s day contains a little more joy and light during a time that may feel scary and dark, and towards the incredible team’s dedication to making this happen.”

“A Natural Choice”

Someone who has previous knowledge of the hospice is Rob Lewis, Director of Celtic Planning. He said, “At Celtic Financial Planning, we’re proud of our strong community values and social responsibility. After fundraising for Hope House at our own 2024 Charity Ball, we witnessed firsthand the vital support they provide to so many local families. It was a natural choice to continue our support by sponsoring their ball this year. It’s an honour to play a small part in the incredible work they do.”

Louise Young, Managing Director of LL Estates, is equally proud of their involvement. She said: “I’m really proud to support Tŷ Gobaith. The care and support they give to local children and families is incredible. It means a lot to be able to help in any way we can.”

Lisa Harbour, Head of Family at Swayne Johnson Solicitors, said: “Supporting Hope House Tŷ Gobaith is incredibly important for us.  They are very close to the hearts of people in the local communities that we love, and many of our employees are also parents themselves. Swayne Johnson wants to support Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith so that they can continue to provide their vital and invaluable services for many years to come”

Village Goes ‘Quackers’ for Charity Duck Race

Pontblyddyn Cricket Club, near Mold, will once again be hosting the memorial Harry’s Duck Race to raise funds for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices.

Snowflake Suite

Chiefly organised by Julia Jones and family from Wrexham, the day pays tribute to their son and brother Harry, who died suddenly in his sleep aged just four. After his death, the family went to stay in the special Snowflake Suite at Hope House in Oswestry. The Snowflake Suite is a dedicated bedroom, lounge and private garden where families can say also goodbye to their children after they have died, in their own time and in their own way. The family also accessed bereavement counselling through the hospice.

Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Duck Race

The event centres around a series of miniature duck races which start off from the club bridge and float along a stretch of the River Alyn. There is also an often hilarious fancy dress competition for larger ducks too. You can buy small ducks for £1 via Julia at justgiving.com/page/julia-jones-harry2025. Large ducks cost £20 from Hope House at hopehouse.org.uk/event/duck.

“Help And Support”

Julia said, “This is our 16th Duck Race to remember Harry and raise funds for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices. With the help and support of the community, it has been a great success in the past. We have raised thousands to support local hospices in helping children and families.

“There will be something for everybody with fun games, BBQ, face painting, market stall, bar and of course a BBQ. The first ducks will hit the water at noon. People are welcome at the Cricket Club from 11.30am to 3pm to join in the fun and activities.”
