Wrexham is continuing to strengthen its reputation as one of the most exciting visitor destinations in North Wales. This is thanks to a series of new attractions and collaborative projects designed to celebrate the area’s heritage, culture and creativity.
Among the latest developments is the opening of a brand-new fixed planetarium at Xplore! Science Discovery Centre, alongside the launch of an ambitious visitor trail connecting some of the county borough’s best-loved attractions.
A New Planetarium Experience
The new planetarium is located in Wrexham city centre. Xplore! have created the attraction with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and aims to bring the wonders of space to audiences of all ages. Organisers say the immersive experience is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage more people to engage with science and discovery.

Its current feature presentation, From Earth to the Universe, explores humanity’s fascination with the night sky. It stretches from the observations of ancient astronomers through to the powerful telescopes used today. Suitable for visitors aged seven and above, the 30-minute experience combines striking visuals, storytelling and immersive effects. As a result it creates an engaging introduction to the mysteries of space.
A Trail Through Wrexham’s Heritage
The planetarium is just one part of a wider effort to showcase everything Wrexham has to offer. The council have also launched a new family-friendly visitor trail. It’s a collection of attractions that highlight the county borough’s industrial history, cultural identity and natural beauty.
The trail links together destinations including Stori Brymbo, Football Museum of Wales, St Giles’ Church, the National Trust’s Erddig Hall and Chirk Castle, and the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Visitors are encouraged to explore the sites through an illustrated map. The interactive sticker trail is aimed at families and tourists alike.
Also included in the project is Tŷ Pawb, which is home to Wrexham’s Visitor Information Centre. Organisers say the initiative is designed not only to attract visitors, but also to tell the wider story of Wrexham through its people, places and communities.
Building Momentum for the Future
The collaboration demonstrates how organisations across the region are increasingly working together to strengthen Wrexham’s tourism and cultural offer. The project arrives at an important time for the city. There is a growing anticipation surrounding Wrexham’s UK City of Culture 2029 bid. There are several major attractions either opening or undergoing redevelopment.
Councillors and project partners have described the trail as an important way of connecting attractions while encouraging longer visits to the area. They say Wrexham’s blend of history, science, sport, art and green spaces gives it a unique identity that is continuing to attract national attention.
With the visitor trail now live and the new planetarium already welcoming guests, Wrexham’s growing tourism and cultural sector appears to be entering an exciting new chapter.
