Art is amazing. It is inspiring. A painting has the ability to transport you to another time while allowing you to get lost in the technique and imagery. A sculpture or statue seems to add more depth and layers of interest every time you look at it from up close, far away, or from a new angle. Art shows off emotion, intention, creativity, passion, and appreciation. Show your artistic interests and instincts off in style while feeding your creative side by trying a few of the suggestions below.
Curate Artistic Collections
Art comes in a seemingly untold variety of forms and mediums. If you have an affinity for a specific category of interest, such as military regalia, for instance, you might already have a collection of wartime memorabilia.
Old flags that are thoughtfully folded and displayed inside beautiful wooden shadow boxes are commonplace in these collections. Vintage campaign medals, old canteens, military photographs and maps, and anything else you might like are ideal and make a great artistic collection.
Consider adding something else to your tableau of interest. A soldier statue that represents a military vehicle that you appreciate, a leader you admire, or a campaign you have participated in are all meaningful and would make excellent additions to your displays.
Experience Art in Various Forms
Art is not only created by someone’s hands. It comes in a wide range of offerings. Take in a long-running musical on the West End and see what feelings a well-sung rendition of the final song elicits in you. Pay attention to the costumes, stagecraft, and the setting. All of it is art in its own way.
Explore a nearby photography exhibit. It might be from a famous photographer or a budding artist just starting their journey. Linger on each photo. Pay attention to what the photographer decided to preserve while considering what they opted to leave out. The artist captures moments in time with artistic precision while only using apertures, lenses, light, and subject matter.
Look for your city’s international film festival. These festivals are filled with creative talent. From the actors and actresses to the cinematographers and the directors and editors, their results are artistic endeavours that are true labours of love. Sometimes, you will find foreign language films. Do not pass them by. The subtitles add to the experience. Often, film festivals are held in older theatres from a bygone era, which only serves to add to the ambience of the festival while adding a rich artistry to the entire event.
Pay for a Subscription to an Art Magazine
Magazines are still alive and well. While some have moved entirely online, others are still available in print. Look for an art magazine that sparks a feeling within you and garners your interest. There is something kinesthetic about the tactile experience of holding a magazine and moving your fingers across the words and images.
Art magazines offer their readers a chance to learn more about art that they may not otherwise be exposed to. They provide a rich history and backstory about artists around the world, both young and old. Everything from the tried-and-true masters to up-and-coming artists and their interesting profiles may be found within these pages.
Travel to Art-Filled Destinations
Going on holiday is an experience in and of itself. There is so much to do, see, and explore across the globe. Now, if you add art to your agenda, you will expand your itinerary and create an entirely new layer of culture and possibility.
The world is filled with well-known museums, small local galleries, and vast and expansive galleries that you can spend days exploring. Look for the best museums in the world and plan your next trip accordingly. Norway has an amazing sculpture garden. Italy has the island of Murano. And France has the Louvre. There is so much artistry to behold that you will never see it all, but you will return home with a new appreciation for the talented people who create such artistry and be grateful for those who protect, preserve, and display it for all to see and experience.
Create Your Own Art
Art is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. If you have ever been inspired by a Jackson Pollock piece and his immersive action painting style, perhaps you should consider creating a large piece for your home. Or maybe something as simple as your family name in a colourful string wrapped around decorative nails on a wooden board is more your speed. That is art, too.
Find something you would enjoy and give it a try! There are multitudes of videos, how-tos, and tutorials online. You can sign up for a class at a local museum to learn how to paint with watercolours, acrylic or oil paints on canvas. Another fun option is a paint and sip class. Gather your favourite people and sign up for a class together. Drink wine or your beverage of choice while you sit together and follow along with an instructor who will guide you in creating the same painting.
Create a Home Gallery
Beautiful art is not just for museums. It should be enjoyed everywhere, especially in your own home. Travel the world and pick up amazing art that inspires you. Purchase copies of the masters that leave you breathless. Find statues that will look wonderful in your home and add texture and visual interest.
Set up a gallery in your home by installing your artwork in one room along with a few wingback chairs, a settee, and some side tables. Or disperse pieces throughout your home so every space has a bit of artistic talent and beauty within it. You get to decide what to collect and display and where to put it.

Bringing more art into your life is not a concept with a guidebook or a road map. Since art is unique and everyone appreciates something different, you can take what you like and leave the rest for someone else to enjoy. Collect, curate, and experience art on your own terms, in all its amazing forms.
