A spooky season of more treats than tricks is coming to Theatr Clwyd this October, led by a stage version of The Haunting of Hill House.

There’s plenty of action to bring in the autumn season at the Mold venue. Alongside the drama, the month also brings dance, music, comedy, literature and family shows. Here are the highlights.

Drama for Dark Autumn Nights

First, Helios/Selene (8–10 October) combines two Greek myths, the Sun God and the Moon Goddess, into one powerful production.

Next, The Haunting of Hill House (13–17 October) moves from best-selling novel and major Netflix series to the stage. The gripping new production blurs the line between heart-thumping suspense and the supernatural.

After that, Othello (20–24 October) relocates to 1980s Britain. Award-winning director Anthony Almeida transforms Shakespeare’s tragedy in his own signature style. Finally, Seán Aydon’s bold adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray (27–31 October) provides unsettling thrills over Halloween week. It is, the theatre promises, a portrait to die for.

Dance, Music and Opera

National Dance Company of Wales opens the dance programme with its new double bill, Glas | Blue (6–7 October). It welcomes 2026 Olivier Award nominee Alesandra Seutin, with choreography set to a driving soundtrack of traditional Welsh instruments and ancestral voices. The athletic performance is sure to leave audiences breathless.

Later, Let Life Dance (15 October) continues the programme with a powerful piece by award-winning choreographer Jessie Brett. This emerging professional inclusive dance company celebrates difference and strives to be disability-led.

Meanwhile, Patrick Rimes and Sinfonia Cymru perform Songs We Carry (16 October). Rimes rescored the music himself, and Ana Silvera, Saied Silbak and four Sinfonia Cymru musicians join him. Mid Wales Opera (26 October) then presents a full evening of Italian opera, opening with Puccini’s one-act comedy, Gianni Schicchi.

Whitney Houston fans also have a treat in store. The Music of Whitney – The Candlelight Concert (9 October) pays tribute to the star under the warm glow of hundreds of candles. The set includes I Wanna Dance with Somebody, One Moment in Time, I’m Every Woman and I Will Always Love You.

Comedy, Welsh Culture and Talks

Comedy starts with 100% Badgers (3 October), as badger-obsessed Matt Hobs brings his hit Edinburgh Fringe show to Mold. From badgers to lobsters, Harry Stachini (9 October) then explores life’s inevitable transformations with honesty, heart and relentless laughs. Rich Hall (10 October) also stops by with Chin Music, his sharp and sublimely improvised show.

In addition, final tickets remain for Daniel Kitson (8 October), who returns with a brand-new comedy music show. Fez hats at the ready, too, for The Very Best of Tommy Cooper (23 October). West End and Theatr Clwyd favourite Daniel Taylor performs the magic and mayhem.

The Daniel Owen Festival, a 10-day celebration in Mold, hosts Noson gyda Hywel Gwynfryn a Beti George (14 October). The Welsh broadcasting legends share stories from their incredible careers. Later, local artist Morgan Elwy (24 October) blends dub, reggae and blues with messages of peace, identity and optimism.

Book lovers can enjoy Get Booked with Clare Mackintosh (13 October). This month, C.D. Major, Harriet Tyce and M.J. Arlidge join the literary chat show for behind-the-scenes stories and audience Q&As. Feeling brave? Then try Cyflwyniad i Bwgan (22 October). Theatr Clwyd’s Daniel Lloyd and local paranormal expert Professor Llusern share supernatural tales and plans for the theatre’s ghost stories project.

Family Shows and Cinema

Families aren’t forgotten, either. Trapped in her tower, Rapunzel (28–29 October) takes charge of her own destiny in a brand-new adventure full of music, magic and madcap schemes. There’s not a prince in sight, and fancy dress is very welcome.

Theatr Clwyd’s library tours are also back. This time, The Midnight Wizard (28–30 October) brings a storytelling performance and interactive workshop to life. Venue details are on the theatre’s website.

Cinema screenings this month include Cycle of Love (from 3 October), Sense & Sensibility (from 9 October) and Hadestown: The Musical (from 15 October).
