It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The festive season is almost here, and Christmas lights in Wrexham will soon be twinkling across the county. From the big city centre switch-on to village celebrations and a lantern parade, here’s where to join the fun.
Wrexham City Centre Christmas Lights Switch-On
First up is the main event, as Wrexham city centre lights up on Saturday 14 November. The fun starts at 10am with an artisan market in Queens Square. You’ll find hot food and drinks, handmade gifts and lots of local makers.
Live entertainment begins at midday, and performances carry on throughout the afternoon. Then, the countdown to switch on the Christmas lights in Wrexham starts at 4.30pm. Straight afterwards, a Christmas parade sets off through the city centre.
Finally, there’s a live switch-on concert at Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre from 5.30pm. Wrexham Council organises the day with Fair Events Management, Nightingale House Hospice and Eagles Meadow. So, wrap up warm and make a day of the Christmas lights in Wrexham!
Nightingale House Lantern Procession
The Christmas parade includes the Nightingale Lantern Procession, a sponsored walk in support of Nightingale House Hospice. Children carry glowing lanterns along a one-mile route through the pedestrianised city centre. The procession then finishes at Eagles Meadow, where the entertainment continues into the evening.
It costs £6 per child to take part, and accompanying adults go free. Each registration includes a paper lantern and a battery light. You can register in advance on the hospice’s Tickettailor page.
On the day, collect your lantern from the Event Space at Chapter Court, off Queens Square. There’s a lantern decorating workshop from 2pm, so you can add your own festive touches. In addition, walkers can set up a JustGiving page to collect sponsorship for the hospice.

Village Christmas Lights in Wrexham
Meanwhile, many of the county’s villages hold their own switch-ons in late November and early December. For example, Ruabon’s Christmas lights event takes place on Friday 4 December at 4pm. Keep an eye on the Ruabon Community Council website for the full details.
Coedpoeth also celebrates with a Christmas lights switch-on and carols around the village. Similarly, Chirk has previously switched on its lights at St Mary’s Church, with fireworks to round off the evening. However, neither had confirmed its 2026 date at the time of writing.
So, check your local community council’s website or social media for the latest news. Do you know of a Christmas lights switch-on that we’ve missed? Let us know at [email protected], and we’ll do our best to add it.
Llangollen Christmas Festival Just Over the Border
If you fancy a trip out, the Llangollen Christmas Festival is always a festive highlight. Last year, it took place on the last Saturday in November. Stalls, live music and children’s activities filled Centenary Square from 10am.
A colourful parade wound through the town’s streets at 1pm, and there was a visit from Santa too. Then, the town’s Christmas lights were switched on at 5pm. After that, a fireworks display brought the day to a sparkling close.
The 2026 date hadn’t been announced at the time of writing. Therefore, keep an eye on the Llangollen Christmas Festival Facebook page for updates. As always, the festival is very popular, so arrive early to find a parking space.
More Festive Fun Around Wrexham
Of course, the fun doesn’t stop once the lights are on. For instance, Tŷ Pawb hosts a Christmas Makers Market on Saturday 21 November, from 10am to 4pm. It’s a great place to pick up unique gifts from independent makers and creatives.
From 28 November, Erddig opens its reverse grotto, where you can meet Father Christmas and Mother Christmas. Over at Chirk Castle, there’s a family show based on The Snow Queen. There’s also a reverse grotto there at weekends until 20 December.
If you’re driving into the city for the switch-on, plan your journey before you set off. Last year, Rhosddu Road was closed all day, along with the disabled parking bays outside NatWest. As a result, the Guildhall car park and Holt Street lay-by offered alternative disabled parking.
