Updating Your Skincare for Spring

As the cold winter months end, it’s time to start thinking about updating your skincare routine for spring.

Warmer Weather

With warmer weather and more sunshine, your skin’s needs change and it’s important to switch up your products to keep your skin looking and feeling its best. Here are some tips to update your skincare routine for spring:

Exfoliate Regularly

During winter, your skin may become dry or flaky, leading to a build-up of dead skin cells and a dull complexion. Exfoliating regularly removes this build-up, leaving your skin looking brighter and more refreshed. Exfoliants can be separated into two types: chemical and physical. Those which work chemically, such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), do so by loosening the bonds between dead surface layer cells and the radiant skin beneath. Physical exfoliants like scrubs or polishes use ingredients such as sea salt or bamboo silica and work using abrasive action to push the dead cells off. Whichever method you choose, look for gentle exfoliants that won’t damage your skin.

A Lighter Moisturiser

In winter, rich, creamy moisturisers are essential to keep your skin hydrated and protected from the cold, dry air. But in the spring, you can switch to a lighter one that won’t feel as heavy on your skin. Look for moisturisers with hyaluronic acid for a lightweight hydration hit or prebiotics that stabilise sebum levels and protect against blemish-causing bacteria if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

Use Sunscreen Daily

As the weather gets warmer and the sun gets stronger, protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is more important than ever. Use broad-spectrum facial sunscreen with an SPF of 50 daily, even if you’re just running errands or spending time indoors. Look for sunscreens that are lightweight or non-greasy, and consider tinted ones if you want a bit of a glow without wearing makeup.

Add Antioxidants

Antioxidants protect your skin from environmental damage, pollution and free radicals. Incorporate products into your skincare routine that contain antioxidants like vitamins C and E or berries and green tea extract. These products brighten your skin, reduce inflammation, and even out your skin tone.

Your Lips and Eyes

Lips and eyes are often overlooked, but they’re just as important as the rest of your face. Invest in a good lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from the sun, and use an eye cream to hydrate and brighten the delicate skin around your eyes.

Use a Face Mask

Face masks are a great way to give your skin extra TLC and address specific skin concerns like dryness, acne, or dullness. Use a face mask once a week to help hydrate, brighten, or purify your skin, depending on your needs. Look for masks formulated for your skin type and concerns, and follow the instructions carefully for the best results. Following these tips, you can update your skincare routine for spring and keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
