D-Day 80th Anniversary

Ysgol Rhiwabon had the honour of being invited to two D-Day commemorations earlier last month.

At 9.30am, Mrs Wright-Davies accompanied Cian Roberts and Maddie Jones to Cefn Mawr Cenotaph. They placed a wreath on behalf of staff and students of Ysgol Rhiwabon, along with some of the other local schools.

At midday, Mrs Wright-Davies and Mrs Potts also had the privilege of taking Jake and Katie McGlynn to Wrexham’s D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration Event in St Giles’ Church.

After the service, Jake and Katie took part in the procession. They proudly carried flags from the nations involved 80 years ago.

Mrs Vanessa Wright-Davies, Lead Learner for Year 7 and Curriculum Lead for History, said,

“All four students were a credit to their families and the school. We were delighted to have been invited to take part”.

This term, Year 8 French classes have been learning about all things Parisian, including the food!

This week saw Mrs Evans’ two Year 8 classes flip it out during their ‘crêpe off’.

The brief was to make their crêpes as French-looking as possible without affecting taste. Year 8 had a great time planning, cooking and flipping!

Mrs Sally Evans. French Curriculum Lead said, “It really was a good way to get the pupils thinking about the wider cultural aspect of France and Paris. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the results were amazing”.
