Nightingale News For February 2025 – Here are three stories highlighting the great work Nightingale House Hospice has been doing in Wrexham over the last few weeks.

Nightingale House Hospice 30 Years Old!

“I don’t think people realise how much hospices offer to support you”. These powerful words from a patient at NHH mark emphatically the 30 years of the hospice providing care and support for patients and their families.

Since opening its doors in 1995, the hospice has grown into a vital resource for the community, offering a wide range of services that extend far beyond traditional end-of-life care. For many, the word “hospice” may conjure a perception of a place to die. Nightingale House Hospice is working to break this misconception by highlighting the breadth of its services and also the crucial role it plays in helping patients live well following their diagnosis.

Haci Deniz

Chip-O-Dee owner Haci Deniz (second left in the featured image) has donated presents for the patients at NHH to give to their children and grandchildren. Following a family history of cancer, Haci consequently wanted to support a charity that aids people in similar situations. When he asked his best friend, Matt Griffiths, if there was a charity that helps cancer patients in the local area, Matt immediately suggested: “My first thought was Nightingale House Hospice.”

Haci said: “I just love making people happy, and I hope that’s what these toys will do.”

Oliver Watkin

Seven-year-old Oliver Watkin smashed his £100 target to raise over £650 for NHH in memory of his beloved grandad, Dilwyn Walker. Dilwyn was cared for at Nightingale House Hospice before he passed
away in 2017 and inspired the young fundraiser to take part in the hospice’s Lantern Parade in November.

Oliver said: “I only got to see my Grandad for one week. Mummy, Nana, and Daddy talk about him a lot. I wanted to raise £100 for Nightingale House so anyone like Grandad can be looked after as well as he was!”
