New Xplore Exhibits Arrive: Xplore! is the new home of science discovery in North Wales and beyond! The brand-new attraction in the heart of Wrexham is brought to you by the rebranded Techniquest Glyndŵr.

Since opening in October 2020, the centre has been open for just a limited time due to the ongoing pandemic. The people who have already experienced hours of exciting discovery at Xplore!, however, will be happy to hear about the addition of even more fantastic exhibits! We have received them from all over the world, including Russia and The Netherlands. All crafted by the best engineers of science engagement and fun.
Send your voice from one side of the room to another with just a whisper, create mist and send smoke rings flying through the air! You can even learn about water with a brand-new enthralling exhibit courtesy of key sponsor Hafren Dyfrdwy, highlighting the importance of good water management.
There are another 100-plus activities for you to get stuck into while science communicators are always on hand to showcase the very best we have to offer.
A Vital Resource
Xplore! is a vital resource not just for Wrexham, but for the whole geographical area. It aims to inspire curious minds with the wonders of science and to provide inspiration for the country’s future doctors, engineers, researchers, teachers and more.
Having opened originally in 2003 on the Plas Coch campus of Glyndŵr University, the multi-million-pound move finally took place in 2020 to the excitement and anticipation of regulars and new visitors alike. Sadly, the masses have yet to enjoy Xplore! fully, but it will soon open its doors again to visitors for them to enjoy this much-anticipated visitor attraction.
Years of planning and preparation have resulted in an outstanding facility right on your doorstep. It is the UK’s latest major attraction and serves as another jewel in North Wales’ crown. Don’t forget to visit the new café and shop during your visit or pop in any time and access them free of charge. They are open seven days a week!
If you’re wondering what to do when it is safe to do so, Add Xplore! to your list and head to Henblas Street, Wrexham, for hours of fun from just £7.50! Exciting exhibits and fantastic staff are on-hand to guarantee a tremendous afternoon for kids and adults alike!

Xplore! is the trading name of North Wales Science, a company limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales as a charity. Wrexham Glyndŵr University wholly owns the charity. Xplore! is the premier Science Discovery Centre in North Wales, attracting the general public and school visits at primary and secondary level. The centre offers over 65 interactive science exhibits in addition to live science shows delivered to the public at weekends and during local (Wrexham) school holidays, enriching the lives of over 80,000 visitors every year.
For schools, Xplore! offers a comprehensive programme of curriculum-related science workshops and shows for groups in Foundation/Key Stage 1 right up to Key Stage 5. Heart of the Community
Xplore! Science Discovery Centre is a collaborative effort between our staff, partners and the local community. Their ‘Heart of the Community’ vision is to make science accessible to all. And, that to end, they work hard every day to improve what they do and offer our audiences.
Following a monumental effort over the last few years, they’ve finally been able to put their plans into practice. In 2019, they obtained funding from the Inspiring Science Fund and the Targeted Regeneration Investment Programme. This money went towards transforming and relocating their science centre and build closer relationships with local communities.
You can see the most visible part of their changes through the work of their Community Outreach Team. Additionally, the Team is engaging with as many community groups within our catchment area as possible. Especially those who historically have had barriers between themselves and science engagement.
Let Xplore! Know What You Want
Throughout the process, there has been an immense focus on public consultation to create a science discovery centre shaped and designed by its visitors. Xplore! are still actively engaging with groups to hear their suggestions, concerns and interests. They have many forums for letting them know what you think, particularly through social media, outreach events and in-centre consultations.
The new centre’s opening does not mark the end of the engagement process: they’re looking to consult with the general public, schools, and other groups to co-create the best experience possible to bring their long-held dream to life.
To summarise: their goal is to provide interactive and fun science activities made by the community for the community.
