Staff at a leading Wrexham nursery have welcomed the town’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, to their state-of-the-art facilities. Ms Griffiths visited the Little Scholars Nursery on Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s Plas Coch campus after the nursery and its staff were praised by Care Inspectorate Wales and Estyn, the education and training inspectorate.
During the visit, she met staff from all levels of the nursery, including Director Rebecca Mottram and Wrexham Glyndŵr University Professor Emeritus Karen Graham – who spoke at the launch of the Welsh Government’s Early Childhood and Care approach last month. She was also keen to hear more about the recent Estyn report for Little Scholars, which saw staff praised for their work with the children at the nursery.
‘Loose Parts Play’
‘Loose Parts Play’The report states “Leaders provide children with a well-decorated environment which considers the interests of the children with plenty of facilities to enhance their wellbeing and learning. Leaders provide a range of good quality, developmentally-appropriate play and learning resources. For example, practitioners promote children’s curiosity and problem-solving skills using ‘loose parts play’ where natural and recyclable materials can be moved around and used in endless ways.
“The setting has a wide range of low-level furniture and resources that practitioners use effectively to enhance children’s learning. For example, different-sized planters enable children to reach inside to plant and grow their own vegetables.”
Little Scholars and Glyndŵr
