If you have visited the centre of Wrexham lately, you will have noticed that a few new businesses have sprung up or relocated.
To^st Cafe and Deli
To^st (Toast) is a friendly, independent café and deli on Charles Street. Claire is always coming up with great new ideas, like their recent promotion for BBQ pulled-pork grilled cheese sandwiches. Check out their Welsh deli – they have many lovely Welsh cheeses and a new batch of Welsh charcuterie. There are also some truckles of Y Feni cheese available. Keep up to date with their news and specials by going to their Facebook page (search “toastcafeanddeli”). Opening hours are 10am to 4pm.
High Street Feeder
In June, Ashraf opened the High Street Feeder café at 8 High Street. The menu features something for everyone with a great variety of breakfast options, including baguettes, omelettes and the “Feeder” options, which look fantastic! Lunch options include a range of green dishes, including the not-to-be-missed “Superfood Salad”. You can also find sandwiches, burgers, toasties, pasta dishes and a bewildering range of fries and toppings! There is a selection of coffees and you can also order vegan versions of many of the menu items. Ashraf is a great host and sure to give you a warm welcome.
Olawa Bake Shop
The Polish Olawa bakery chain has opened a shop on Regent Street next door but two to the Elihu Yale Weatherspoons. It is an artisan baker’s dream with over 20 varieties of Polish bread, plus cakes and other patisserie items such as delicious chocolate eclairs. Savoury rolls and sandwiches complete the mouth-watering selection on offer. Olawa has another shop in Chester and others planned for Flint and Mold. Lukasz Zynicha, the owner, says the original idea was to make old-fashioned products you could find in Poland 30 years ago when the bread tasted like something your grandparents would remember.
Tŷ Cornel
Tŷ Cornel (“Corner House” in English) is, appropriately, on the corner where Priory Street meets Vicarage Hill. It is the new home of Undegun Arts and features a studio and gallery run by artists. They held a grand opening night back in August, featuring the talents of local singer Isabella Crowther. Their next exhibition will be on 21st October and you can visit their Facebook page by searching for “undegunarts.wrexham”.
Igam Ogam
Igam Ogam (“Zig Zag” in English) Boba Tea Shop has opened new premises on Charles Street. It sells terrific bubble “Boba” tea, and Sean and Sioned also have a fantastic range of gifts, homeware and Japanese and American sweets and snacks.
Honourable Mentions
For a great range of recycled wood products, try Country Life on Regent Street opposite Town and Country estate agents. Caprinos does excellent takeaway pizza and is also on Regent Street between Town and Country, and Olawa. Carniboar is a highlyrecommended steakhouse at 36 High Street, featuring a great cocktail menu!
