A night of sparkle and warmth took place in Brymbo Social Club in January after storm Goretti threatened to cancel the culmination of a six-month project leading towards a night of celebration.
Going That Extra Step
Credu is a charity that supports young and adult carers. It focuses on Young Carers in the County of Wrexham and successfully applied for UK funding through the Shared Prosperity Fund. The idea was to bring together the community of young carers and their families. They also ensured that the community allies who support them also attended.
Funding went towards Wrexham Sounds, which offered music workshops for individual young carers and Arts Connection. These included visual arts workshops for groups of young carers, leading up to a culmination event.

Done Together
Credu employed Done Together, a newly formed CIC, with founding members who had experience working on projects together. Done Together agreed to take on the role of co-ordination with the proviso that Young Carers would co-produce the final look and feel of the event.
Organisers ensured inspiring get-togethers to imagine the nomination process, the award categories, and the final event. They realised dreams of inviting notable guests and forming creative ideas. The team gave great consideration to siblings and families attending with additional needs.

A team of young carers, the staff team of Done Together and Credu’s staff joined forces to decorate and prepare the room on the 10th January.
Impactful Stories
“In the evening, we heard impactful stories about exceptional young people in caring roles. We celebrated the ordinary and extraordinary young carers. We also recognised individuals from our community who go above and beyond in their roles. Our presenter, MC Duxicus Dux, presented warmly and with humour (where appropriate),” said Sally, a Credu Team Leader.

A parent who nominated their child said, “In short, our daughter is AMAZING! Without her daily help, our family home would be far more chaotic. She asks nothing in return for all the help that she provides. She does it all out of love, love for her brother, who she can see struggling daily.
“He is the rock and joy in our lives”, and “She is our angel”, said some of the other nominators.
Big Smiles
The evening was full of acknowledged appreciation. There were live performances by young carers, tasty food, a playful photo booth, art workshops, and a lively disco, DJed by the young carers. Big smiles, singing, dancing and laughter ended the evening.
“Seeing everyone work together to make the event so special was really heartwarming. The young people were involved in every step. The playlist was on-point, and the musical talent in the room was impressive”, said Natalie Edwards from Done Together.

Trip to Cardiff
Credu are taking eight young carers from across their projects who are members of the Carers’ Trust Young Carers Council down to Cardiff on 10th March to take part in a hustings event with members of the Senedd in readiness for the May elections.
The Youth Council has worked with Welsh Artist Nathan Wyburn to create an artwork expressing the Young Carers’ top-three Manifesto pledges, which will be on show in the Senedd.
