Tŷ Pawb is now generating almost half of its electricity on-site. Furthermore, it has already saved around £8,000 in energy costs. This follows the successful installation of a new solar power system at the popular Wrexham venue.
Almost Half of Electricity Generated On-Site
The 108 kWp solar PV system produced 38,730 kWh of electricity between January and March this year. As a result, it accounted for almost 42% of the building’s total electricity use during that period.
In total, Tŷ Pawb used 92,450 kWh of electricity over those three months. Most of the remaining power was imported from the grid. However, a small surplus of energy generated by the system was also exported back into the network.
Encouraging Results – Even in Winter
Council representatives described the figures as particularly encouraging. This is because the system was operating during winter – traditionally one of the least productive periods for solar energy generation in the UK.
Therefore, as daylight hours increase through spring and summer, electricity generation and financial savings are expected to rise further.

Performing Better Than Expected
The council says the system is already performing better than expected. Consequently, it could repay its installation costs sooner than originally forecast.
Councillors described the project as a strong example of how <a href=”https://www.theccc.org.uk/what-is-climate-change/a-guide-to-climate-change/how-can-we-tackle-climate-change/renewable-energy/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>renewable energy investment</a> can reduce costs, lower carbon emissions and reduce reliance on grid electricity in public buildings.
