Café GiGi, Queen’s Square
Sylvia, owner of Café GiGi, was born in Zimbabwe, and later moved to South Africa before coming to North Wales in 1998 with her husband and three sons. It’s a dream come true for her to open a café featuring Welsh and some African-inspired dishes. The special Boerewors sausage is quite a treat; ideally, it should be cooked on a barbecue outdoors and she hopes to get permission to do that soon! The focus is on great, freshly prepared food – and they also serve gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian meals. They also have award-winning Tunki Peruvian coffee.

Heaven
This coffee shop has only been open for 18 months, but already it’s getting “Heaven-ly” reviews for the food quality and the service! They specialise in delicious waffles, crepes, and pancakes.
Lot 11, Priory Street
Sarah Baker opened Lot 11 (in partnership with The Fat Boar) in November 2017
Why the name? She explains: ‘LOT stands for Love Our Town. We have images of Wrexham around the café: Erddig Hall, football floodlights, the old fire station… we hang work from local artists, use local suppliers and sell locally-made items on the shelf space. Lot 11 #LoveOurTown – celebrating local people and local produce.’
Sarah came home after travelling around Australia for two years and wanted to open an Australian inspired brunch bar in her home town. Their signature dish is crushed avocado with chilli and poached eggs.

Taste Buds, High Street
Started in March 2007 by three friends who had worked together in the hugely popular Bumbles café. Pam Fisher is now the sole owner and still serves the same delicious loose-leaf tea blend which Bumbles were famous for. ‘I do daily specials, such as lasagne, chicken pie, cottage pie and quiche. We also have sweet treats: freshly baked scones, meringues and cakes. The breakfast omelette is a new twist on an old favourite and is proving a hit!”
Vasco de Gama, Lord Street
Little Portugal In Wrexham
Maria and Luis have been welcoming customers at Vasco da Gama for over three years and are celebrating their one-year birthday at their new premises on Lord St.
Locals and the Portuguese community alike love the friendly atmosphere, as well as the traditional Pastel de Nata egg custards and other delicious Portuguese specialities.
Pop in for a few hours and pretend you are on holiday!
Café de Galles
Another long-time favourite with locals and tourists alike is Café de Galles. This sits in a stunning location right next to the beautiful wrought-iron gates of St Giles Parish Church. Julie Stapley, the current owner, took over in 2009 after working part-time there since it opened in 1997. They are especially proud of their breakfast, homemade soups and apple pie.
