Wrexham AFC Hollywood Sale

Wrexham fans have overwhelmingly voted to sell Wrexham Association Football Club to actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

98.4% Yes!

A statement from Wrexham Supporters’ Trust read: ‘The Wrexham Supporters’ Trust board would like to thank all members who took the time to vote and take part in the process relating to the Extraordinary Ballot. There was a significant turnout for the ballot at 91.5 per cent. Ninety-eight point four per cent voted in favour of the sale with the key resolution seeing 1,801 fans voting yes, 29 against and 11 abstentions.

‘We are now in a position to confirm the result of the vote, which has been independently verified by Mi-Voice, the company assisting the Trust in the process. As can be seen in full detail here, members have voted FOR all three resolutions.

“As such – subject to final agreement, league and FA confirmation – the RR McReynolds Company, LLC will take 100% control of Wrexham Football Club Limited from the WST. Both parties will now proceed with finalising the details of the takeover and we will update Wrexham supporters as soon as we can.

Professional And Considered Approach

‘The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board would like to thank Mr Rob McElhenney, Mr Ryan Reynolds and their advisors Inner Circle Sports and Walker Morris for their professional and considered approach and for the time they have put into the process. As Wrexham supporters, we would like to wish them the very best of luck in charge of our Football Club and look forward to what the future brings.

‘We would also like to thank Sheridans, Mackenzie Jones, BDO and Rob Parry for their assistance throughout the process. Finally, to WST members, we would like to thank you for all your support since we took control of the Football Club in 2011.

“We will update supporters in due course as to the future plans for the Wrexham Supporters Trust.”

We brought you a report a few days ago on Rob and Ryan’s mission statement.  The pair have had the complete and unmitigated support of the Wrexham AFC fanbase. So far, the Wrexham Supporters Trust have held two special general meetings. The first one ended with 97.5% of the vote in favour of negotiations should commence. The second meeting decided to ‘irrevocably and unconditionally approve‘ the proposed deal.

Exciting Times

The First Minister Mark Drakeford said ‘Truly exciting times for the world’s third oldest football club – I look forward to watching your progress.’

Lesley Griffiths MS commented: ‘The unanimous decision by the supporters to sell was no real surprise and I believe this move will not only be positive for the club, but a boost for the whole town. I cannot wait to see how it unfolds.’

The MS for Plaid Cymru’s North Wales, Llyr Gruffydd, said, ‘This is an exciting new chapter in the club’s long history after the WST effectively saved the club from a very dark period of uncertainty.’

Council Leader Mark Pritchard said ‘It’s utopia. Superb. Incredible. Its a credit to Spencer and WST Board. A big thank you for what they have done.’

Sarah Atherton for Wrexham’s MP said ‘Excellent news for the club and town! It is fantastic to see such a high-profile investment in Wrexham AFC and the excitement that this has generated.’

Amusing And Typically Irreverent

An interesting and fun spin-off of the vote is a video Reynolds and McElhenney have released via Wrexham’s official website. It’s an amusing and typically irreverent dialogue involving Ifor Williams Trailers, Wrexham’s main sponsor.

The duo have also posted a series of Wrexham AFC-related tweets; the lastest of which is a picture of the Wrexham crest stating ‘Wrexham is the name‘.

The Leader Live reports that the trailer manufacturers were ‘blown away and humbled‘ to be mentioned in the video. Indeed, Director Carole Williams said ‘Ryan and Rob have certainly got off on the right foot and the fans are right behind them, as are we at Ifor Williams Trailers. Like all the other fans we’re dreaming of a happy Hollywood ending.’
