Good news for the Wrexham scene as Evrah Rose returns with a new album, Link In Bio. More live gigs and a book will accompany her new work.

We were delighted recently to have the opportunity to meet up again with Evrah Rose, one of Wrexham’s most famous and accomplished performers, and find out what she’s been up to since we interviewed her way back at the beginning of our journey in 2019.

The Venture

Evrah splits her time between recording and her responsibilities as a trustee for The Venture, which organised Wellfest on Llwyn Isaf last month. She has also found time to join the City of Culture 2029 team as they tour the county promoting their intentions to go one better with the bid and succeed Bradford as the next winner.

Her music and poetry career is still going strong, and she has just performed at the Fat Boar as part of FOCUS Wales and at WellFest. Her performance for FOCUS Wales was part of the showcase “Red Roach & CBT Presents:…”. She’s also due to appear at the International Eisteddfod and Llangollen Fringe in July.

Elm Studios

As if that wasn’t enough, Evrah’s also released a new album called Link In Bio. Produced by Owen (OD) Davies at Elm Studios in Mold, her label will release the new material on her label, Red Roach. In addition to Evrah’s upcoming live performances, her label is running a showcase event at Wrexfest in August, which will feature the young artist Blearz among others.

Evrah takes up the story of the album: “With Link In Bio, you get a taste of everything, every single song in the album connects, but it’s got all those soundscapes that you’re used to hearing in my work, with hints about who I am. The first song makes more sense once you finish the album, because it’s a foreshadowing of what begins and what ends. Every song has something from another song in there, so you have to listen to hear it.

“But you will also hear links to my previous works in that album as well, so they lead on, they all tell a connected story. It’s the links of why I am and who I am today, an insight into what has shaped me to become the person I am.”

Evrah Rose – Link In Bio: “Unclean, Untouched”

A book, also called Link In Bio, will be launch simultaneously and feature QR codes that allow you to access additional, unique, and exclusive demo versions of the album’s songs – “Unclean, untouched. Me screaming through a broken set of headphones,” as Evrah says. She also talked about the ethos behind her record label, Red Roach: “The label’s a community interest company, and it’s not about keeping artists, or keeping them in rigid contracts – although we provide contracts – it’s just to make sure that everybody knows where they are and where everybody stands.”

“But essentially it’s: work with an artist for 12 to 24 months, get them a body of work recorded, and some radio exposure as well.”

“Outgrow the Label”

Adam Walton and/or Bethan Elfin have aired every artist that I’ve put on my label on BBC Radio. It’s about giving them all that experience and a full body of work to leave, allowing them to continue their success, because a major issue for many artists is the financial barriers.

“That’s pretty much the ethos of Red Roach: reduce the financial barriers to growth – an artist can just get a bit of a taste of the scene, develop a body of work, and then go out into the big, wide world. The biggest premise is, ‘Outgrow the label’”.

“The label is going through some restructuring as we tailor our support, and how that looks. We have recently relocated to Roc2 Studios, Borras, where we will have wider opportunities for artists going forward. Watch this space!”
