Local artist Natasha Borton is chosen as one of eight artists from across Wales, for the National Theatre Wales 2019-2020. With the support of National Theatre Wales and National Resource Wales, she will be exploring the rhyme and rhetoric between Welsh coal-mining heritage and climate-change action and conversation.

Natasha says “I’m thrilled to have been chosen not only as an artist, but as a member of this community. North East Wales has a rich and animated history of grassroots activism and community cohesion. It has a personality of its own that we can elevate and contribute to through this project.”

Of The Earth

The new project, called ‘Of The Earth’. Looks at how the coal-mining industry has shaped Welsh identity and how we preserve our history. Especially as we move towards an environmentally-friendly future. Moreover, the project will also look at the miners’ strikes of the 1980s. The recent global climate strikes and how protest links to Welsh identity. Natasha aims to gain the body of the narrative through a real voice, with stories of local people in a series of workshops, interviews and open rehearsals in Gresford and Llay. There will also be a sharer gathering to publish the findings of the project. It is due to take place in Wrexham on the 19th or 20th of March.
