Wrexham BID is transforming the city centre through family events, fresh investment and support for local traders.
A Summer to Remember in the City Centre
Last month, Wrexham BID hosted its flagship summer event. The celebration brought energy, families and high footfall into the heart of the city. It aimed to increase dwell time and encourage visitors to explore local shops and eateries. As a result, the event proved a resounding success.
Wrexham BID delivered the summer party in partnership with Heart Radio North Wales. Heart Radio’s Tune Truck brought music, led by presenter Ben Shepherd on DJ duty. Meanwhile, the City of Wrexham Brass Band gave live performances throughout the day. Families also enjoyed interactive games and a dedicated pop-up park.
Visitors, too, enjoyed plenty of treats. Over 500 ice creams were sold, and organisers gave away another 231 for free. In addition, a city-wide treasure hunt drew more than 390 participants across different streets. Guests also sported 150 distinctive white Wrexham BID bucket hats, creating a sea of white through the city centre.
Brightening Up Lord Street
Alongside these events, Wrexham BID has focused on physical improvements to key city gateways. Lord Street and the approach to the bus station are the current priority.
Visitors passing the bus station will notice the new canopy feature. Covered in vibrant, multi-coloured tiling, it creates a warm entrance for people arriving by bus. When the sun shines, the tiles even project a colourful carpet of light onto the pavement below. This marks the start of ongoing enhancements planned for Lord Street, which will include crime reduction measures, visual upgrades and direct support for local traders.
Empowering Local Businesses Through Training
Under its “Backing Business” strategy, Wrexham BID continues to support local traders through funded workshops. The latest offer is a free, one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course, scheduled for 30 September. Businesses within the BID levy area can attend, and the response has already been strong. The course covers CPR, defibrillator use, choking, severe bleeding, burns and managing sudden illness.
Building Strategic Partnerships for Wrexham
Behind the scenes, Wrexham BID Manager Byron Peters has been building key connections across the region. Five months into his role, Byron visits local businesses daily to understand their needs first-hand. He has also held strategic meetings with Wrexham MP Andrew Ranger and the CEO of the West Cheshire & North Wales Chamber of Commerce. Together, these discussions keep Wrexham BID aligned with regional economic goals, strengthening the city’s reputation as a place to visit, work and play.
