The Vic Studios are the first organisation to receive funds from The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) Voluntary-Services Emergency Fund. This new funding stream will enable voluntary and community organisations to access the resources and continue supporting people during the coronavirus pandemic.
AVOW received £25,000 from the Welsh Government to help organisations across Wrexham County Borough. Grants of up-to £1,000 are available to support not-for-profit organisations to continue vital work at a street and community level. Organisations are also able to apply for the larger Voluntary Services Emergency Grant scheme.
The purpose of this fund is to enable those providing vital support to groups. Such as; people in isolation, the elderly, carers, people struggling to access food, etc…
The grant aims to:
- Maintain or increase activities that support the vulnerable during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
- Ensure third/voluntary sector organisations have the resources needed to deliver vital services for their communities.
- Encourage stringent health and safety protocols during all activities that safeguard third/voluntary sector staff, volunteers and beneficiaries.
Opportunities For Young People
AVOW will administer the smaller grants scheme to enable the sector to continue and expand their work.
The Vic Studios are the first organisation to receive this funding in the county. They will use the funds to continue their work with disadvantaged and disengaged young people. It will also provide further opportunities for young people to gain confidence and skills.
The funding continues their services through digital platforms such as Facebook and Skype. This is to continue 1-2-1 tuition and provide educational videos around music production, performance and composition. The Vic will use this opportunity to increase their integration with other services across the county.

The AVOW Voluntary Services Emergency Fund is in addition to a larger Voluntary Services Emergency Fund being distributed throughout Wales, by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and further support from Welsh Government. The Voluntary Services Emergency Fund is still accepting applications. It is to ensure funding reaches organisations working closely with vulnerable and isolated individuals in our communities.
Funding Details
Funding can be for smaller capital or revenue expenditure including consumable (for example PPE). The request must fit in with the grant aims. Maintaining or increasing voluntary services for vulnerable individuals and communities affected by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
For information on how to access Capital funding, please refer to the Welsh Government Community Facilities Programme. Initial funding will be for up to six months, however, this may change depending on how the crisis develops.
