Essential Beauty Regime Tools by Sarah-Jane Ellis
Post-restriction and glorious summer days are approaching fast, bringing promises of holidays abroad, cocktails, beer gardens and summer barbeques. Urgh, what? This doesn’t seem that exciting if you’re sporting uncut hair, dull-looking skin or a few extra lockdown pounds.
Can you relate? Don’t worry, we’ll get you ready to face the world this summer with our effortless but vital beauty tips.
Make Friends With H20
Ah, water, the magic tonic. Essential for survival, but easily taken for granted. Drink eight glasses per day to maintain the necessary balance of body fluids, keeping you hydrated on the inside and out. Suffer from dry skin? Drinking plenty of water is a better start than slapping on expensive moisturiser.
Feed Your Skin
Eating a healthy, balanced diet with at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day will leave you looking and feeling better. Get plenty of vitamin C to make your skin shine and avoid oily, sugary or fatty foods.
Beauty Sleep
There’s a reason it’s called beauty sleep. Sleep allows our bodies to rest, repair and recover. It aids with wrinkles, your complexion and hair, puffy eyes and your appearance in general. Just one night’s sleep of seven to nine hours is enough to see a difference.
Ditch the Make-Up
I don’t mean always, but going “face naked” more often will do wonders for your skin. Wearing make-up regularly can result in clogged pores, redness, dry skin, irritation and premature ageing. Be brave and “toss the gloss” at least a couple of days a week.
CTM: Cleanse – Tone – Moisturise Daily
“CTM” is a super simple but effective tip for fresher, brighter-looking skin. Cleanse, tone, then moisturise nightly and you’ll soon notice a difference. It only takes minutes, and a variety of good cleansers, toners and moisturisers are available in supermarkets, stores and online.
Out With the Old, In With the New
Exfoliation is an essential part of any skincare routine. Your skin regularly sheds its entire outer layer so you must remove the dead skin to leave room for the new one. Facial scrubs, facial brushes and products containing AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) are helpful for exfoliation. But make sure not to cause irritation by over-exfoliating; once or twice a week is plenty.
The Eyes Have It
Using an under-eye cream is essential for eradicating those pesky, dark circles that plague even the best of us. For best results, use a gentle, specialised under-eye cream as the skin there is quite delicate.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a wonderfully cheap yet effective tool to have in your beauty regime toolbox. It’s a superb moisturiser, lip balm, make-up remover, hair mask and perfect for sensitive skin. Use on eyelashes and eyebrows daily for lashes and brows that have never looked fuller.
Tanning – Just an Illusion
The sun’s harmful UV rays are incredibly damaging. They cause irreversible skin damage, premature ageing and dehydration, regardless of the weather or season. Always use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and a PA+ rating or a good moisturiser with the same.
Follow these (we’re sure you’ll agree) easy steps to get you feeling and looking your best this summer. You’ll be more than ready to make the most of post-lockdown days and some summer sun.
